Today Hugh and i started by visiting prattley. Graeme showed us around, and we saw all the different bits and met some of the guys that work there. it was interesting to see the difference to rappa.
after we left here we began to head towards Mt Cook. as we headed out we took in the fantastic scenery, (pics to follow when we can) Hugh maintains that he doesnt mind all the driving that he is having to do because it is so beautiful here. we got as far as lake Tekapo for lunch. we also had a little wander around the lake. all the lakes that we have visited are pure glacier water and there fore crystal clear, which despite being rather cold makes them look appealing for a swim especially when it has been as hot as this week.
once past lake Tekapo we drove along the top of a man made canal past a huge fresh water salmon farm and a massive hydro damn. it was rewally impressive. i know that i am over using that sentance but we are both in awe of everything that we have seen and are finding it hard to come up with a better way of describing things!!
eventually we made it to mount cook, a little bit tired, and after a mild altercation in the info centre we found the YHA and showered and headed out to find dinner. Mount cook village is the last point before the big mountain and there is very little there, but we found our way to a reasonable bar and grill and had some dinner. we did a pub quiz where hugh was forced to eat overly spicy food in order to stop us from being kicked out the competion for being so totally useless. we tried the Kiwi "student" beer, which was rather like piss water but not too bad. in the end we got an early night.
