The past few days have been absolutely crazy in Antigua. We met a huge amount of people from all over the place and spent around 3 days chilling out and in the evening getting absolutely smashed in the local bars. My highlight was Simon going to chat up a girl and getting as far as saying "do you speak english" before finding out she didnt and giving up. Everyone we have met in Antigua looked like a footballer, especially the ones who looked like Shevchenko, Torres and Inzaghi.
We also climbed the local volcano Volcan Pacaya, which was like a walk in the park compared to the 3 day hike from Xela to Lago Atitlan. At the top the view was awesome and there were holes glowing bright red with molten rock and incredibly hot rocks, so much so that when a stick was put anywhere near the rocks it would ignite with no contact!! Very impressive. The walk down the volcano was pretty sketchy as night was falling and with no light we tripped and stumbled around trying to find good foot holes.
The next day we looked for a Shuttle bus to Lanquin, however being stupid and not booking it the day before we found ourselves halted by no seats, sooooo that meant another day in Antigua and..... you guessed it another night out getting gazeeboed!! We met an Israeli guy called Itamar Cohen who was a quality laugh and proceeded to teach me filthy lines in Hebrew, so Israeli girls watch out!!!
The following day, feeling utterly horrific, and saying to ourselves why the hell did we do that last night knowing we had a bus journey that day, we hopped on the bus to Lanquin. The Journey felt as though it took for ever, especially seeing as I didnt have a proper seat, and was therefore bouncing around on my spine. After around 8 hours on the bus we reached our next destination Lanquin, where we stayed in a hotel called El Rotiro which was lovely by the side of a river. And all for 35Q a night, bargain!!
