Hello All!!
Sorry my blogs are taking time to come!! We have been very busy in the last few days.
A good nights sleep in Lanquin saw us wanting to head to the waterfalls at Semuc Champey, so paying the tour company we hopped on the back of a pick up truck and headed out to the start. The first part of the tour was through caves, so we donned our flip flops and were given a candle each and followed our guide in!! Whilst in the cave we waded through deep water, swam with the candles in our mouths Indiana Jones Style, scaled waterfalls using ropes and jumped off rocks into deep pools. Was amazing!! On exiting the caves it was time for a bit of tubing, so we jumped in our tubes and had a leisurely bob down the river to the exit point. Upon reaching the exit it was then on the cards to hit Semuc Champey, but with everything in Central America, if you want to swim or cool off the country punishes you by forcing you up a steep hill to get there (however on reaching the water its all the more rewarding). From the top of the hill (El Mirador) the view over Semuc Champey was stunning, we must have been a good few hundred meters up. The climb down seemed easy and we stripped down to our swimming stuff in a flash and got into the water. The water was incredibly clear and lovely to swim in and after some jumps and dives it was time for us to leave and head back to Lanquin. The bus journey on the way back was awesome as I was hanging off the back of the pick up truck, holding on for my life ( a cool experience none the less)
That evening was spent relazing as the next day we planned to head up to El Remate and Tikal!!
