Hello all
Since we did the Volcano Hike and chilled in San Pedro we have been quite busy. The volcano hike still sore on the legs made getting around a litte tough, however we managed to get our bags down to the docks in San Pedro and caught a boat to San Marcos. Upon reaching San Marcos, we found a small little hotel called Hotel Unicorno, which was owned by a crazy french man and his wife. Upon dumping our bags we set out around the town which was a little holistic bubble of meditation centres, massage places, a hippies paradise (so therefore not Simons). We went to have a swim off a jetty which was awesome with the backdrop of the lakes behind. On roaming around for a second time I managed to tread in a nice pile of dog poo, which unfortunately made its way all over my foot, so I was made (by Fran and Simon) to walk 10 paces in front. Bad times. That night was just a chill out night as the next day we were scheduled to head to Chichicastenango and the largest market in Central America. The boat the next morning between San Marcos and Panajachel on Lago Atitlan was particularly dodgey as our bags were on the top of the boat and not strapped in, so as people were boarding the boat was rocking and we were becoming ever more fearful that our bags were not going to survive the trip and were going to have a lovely swim in the lake. On reaching Panajachel we caught a bus to Chichi and hit the market hard. We bought a few items and mums and dads will be pleased to hear we drove a hard bargain.
That was all there was to do in Chichi, so the next day we shot to Antigua, a town ringed by volcanoes, a little west of Guatemala City. The bus ride I must say was the craziest thing I have ever been on. The driver was a lunatic and was taking mountain bends at 50 mph, whilst on the phone and overtaking oil lorrys. He didnt seem to have a brake!! We got off the bus feeling happy that we were alive and that our bags had made it to Antigua in one piece. Chicken Buses are getting madder. What next a driver with no arms??
