It was a bus day which started with a pick up at 7.30am in Antayla and ended many hours later at 6.40pm in Goreme, Cappadocia. The bus had more leg room than most planes and had individual entertainment systems for each seat showing movies like Xmen, the Simpsons and Tintin. Downsides-all programming was in Turkish. I watched Ratatouille in Turkish. Also, the Simpsons in Turkish is quite amusing. Toilet/food stops lasted about 10mins. But we made it in time for dinner.
It was a set menu for 15 lira (about $8). Meze plates, potato croquettes and soup to start (you get all-not just one). Main was 'pottery kepap'. Meat, mushrooms, peppers, onions etc cooked in a terracotta vase over an open flame, which pot is broken open do the food inside can be consumed. Amazingly good. And dessert. It was a serious amount of food and caused many yamek-babe (food babies-we created a Turkish word for it).
As it was dark when we arrived at the hotel it was hard to figure out our location-turns out our Ottoman style house hotel backs onto a heap of fairy chimneys (see tomorrows blog for more info re fairy chmneys and crazy rock formations that exist here).
