We visited Ephesus today (aka Efes). Ruins combining Greek and Roman civilisations. Some if the excavation work has found evidence of a settlement extending back to 8200 BC. It has certainly been around a while. Rumour has it that Marc Antony and Cleopatra walked aling the Arcadian Way, which extends from the theatre to the sea. Whole parts of the town remain unexcavated due to funding issues-seems to be a problem everywhere. They reconstructed the Ephesus library which provides the iconic pictures of the area.
We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves from about 6.30pm when we got to the theatre. Stunning and huge with great acoustics.
After another lovely dinner of Turkish food in Selcuk we stopped for water at a park. The park was across the rd from my hotel and had a lake. Home to some very large ducks (like almost goose size). They are also territorial.
There are also a heap of cats-more kittens than cats. They met on the street. I continued to watch from my hotel room. My balcony overlooked this. The quacking carries to the balcony, a standoff ensues, the cats hold their position. In a flurry of feathers it appears the ducks were simply trying to show off. Probably for the sake of the two rabbits (did I mention there are also two rabbits?). The town also happens to have the ruins of a roman acqueduct running through the middle if town. People park their motorbikes underneath it.
