Ron and Evelyn felt like they needed a bit of a rest this morning, so Sherry and I decided to rent some bikes, which were conveniently available from right in front of our hotel. Berlin seems to be a very cyclist friendly city, with lots of bike lanes/paths and a lot of people on bikes. We ended up cycling for a good 3 hours, mostly in the Tiergarten (the Central Park of Berlin) but also along the Spree. We went as far as the Reichstag and saw some of the same sights we did yesterday, but from a different perspective. We stopped for cappuccinos and apfel strudel at a cafe on the banks of the Spree. The weather was still cool and partly cloudy, but luckily no rain.
In the early afternoon we rejoined Ron and Evelyn and "hopped on" a hop-on hop-off bus for a tour of the city. It was a bit late in the day for this, so we could only hop-off once. We chose the area near Checkpoint Charlie and a remaining section of the wall, which had a very interesting display of historical photographs and explanatory text about the Nazi era.
The remainder of the bus tour took us past some more sights, including the beautiful Charlottenburg Palace. The last "hop off" was at 6:00 pm on the Kurfuerstendamm, near where we started. While the girls did some shopping, Ron and I found an Italian restaurant nearby, where we then enjoyed our last dinner in Berlin. Tomorrow we have to get up early for our flight to Spain.

Jim Wish I was with you. Some of my favorite places in Berlin. Went over to your mother's place for a beer tonight, checked out your landscaping job, after making a mistaken phone call. I enjoyed visiting with your Mom and Elizabeth.Elizabeth's constant criticism of my written German has improved my spoken German. It seems my spoken German gets better the more I am around her and your mom. They keep laughing when I speak German. I think I will stick to English. Keep those daily blogs coming, I am reading them every day. Your sister thinks hers are better but she is dreaming in technicolour. I told her so. In German
