Our day in Prague began with a short walk from our hotel to the bus stop. Unsure of exactly how to get to the Metro station, we inquired of a young fellow in the street. He was a university student who spoke reasonably good English. He was going there as well, so we just followed him. We then figured out the Metro stop we needed and a short while later we were in Wenceslas Square.
After walking up and down the Square a ways, we headed toward the Powder Tower and the Municipal House, home of the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
We continued on to Old Town Square and toured the Tyn Church (with the Gothic spires -- see pic). Then we went up to the top of the Old Town Hall tower (from where the pic was taken). The views in all directions were fabulous!
We had a look at the Astronomical Clock when we came down and by then it was close to lunch time, so we stopped at a sidewalk cafe that was partially sheltered from the wind and shared a pizza. The weather today was a marked contrast from yesterday. Overcast, a bit windy, and only about 10 degrees, but luckily no rain.
After poking around some nearby shops for awhile, we pushed on to the Charles Bridge. A beautiful bridge, but jam packed with tourists, vendors hawking their wares, and buskers.
Next we visited the St. Nicholas Church, a masterpiece of over-the-top Baroque architecture. We then returned to a Starbucks we had spied earlier in the Lesser Town Square, for a short break before our hike up the hill to Prague Castle. The next couple of hours were spent visiting St. Vitus Cathedral, the Royal Palace, and several other notable buildings comprising the Prague Castle complex, with its commanding views of the city.
Then it was time to head back down the hill for a pipe organ concert at the Kajetana Church at 6:00 pm, for which we had obtained tickets earlier. While waiting to be let in for the concert, we tried a unique local pastry from across the street. Tasted kind of like a cross between a churro and a cinnamon bun, but made in a big roll -- quite tasty actually.
We were all pretty tired by then, so it was tough not to doze off during the hour long organ concert, which was very enjoyable nonetheless.
After the concert we headed straight down to a guide book recommended restaurant by the river (Hergetova Cihelna). It had great views of the Charles Bridge and it would have been even nicer to sit on the patio outside, but it was too cold.
It was an excellent dinner, after which we headed back to our hotel via the Metro and bus again. Another tiring but
satisfying day of sightseeing. Prague is a beautiful city well worth visiting.

Jim Michals Tomorrow, on to Pils......Send Sherry and Evelyn to one of the Mozart Opera Houses where he actually inaugurated his more unconventional operas such as the Magic Flute. Watch out for knock off theatre and opera houses which promise big and deliver little. I think I remember busking as the national pastime in Prague.
Elizabeth Isn't Prague great?! Love that place. Too bad the weather wasn't better. Note to Jim: Mr 2 Euro is Hungarian, wrong country. Cesky Krumlov is another beaut place to see in Czech. Perhaps another time?
Jim Michals Hey Elizabeth I'm Hungarian , too. In fact i think I will just go for breakfast. See you later.....
Julie Can't believe how you can find a Starbucks anywhere! The organ concert must have been wonderful in such a beautiful setting. What a great workout with all the walking and climbing. Happy Mother's Day Sherry!
Kathy D Fantastic to read of your travels. We hope to tour Europe in the next few years too.
