Today was all about getting to Melbourne for the Aussie Open, in particular tonight's quarter final between Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgious.
On the way to Melbourne, we broke the journey at a couple of lookouts.
First up, just outside Foster was the Corner Inlet Lookout. This is a massive Inlet from the sea, framed by the Wilsons Promontory. The lookout gives a fantastic view of its size and beauty.
Later on we stopped at Koo Wee Rup Swamp Lookout. This swamp was once a massive barrier between Melbourne and the land South of the swamp. However, the discovery of coal was the impetus to conquering the swap and providing a route through it.
Once we had arrived in Melbourne and checked into our hotel, we found a lovely little Italian restaurant in Richmond where we shared a pizza before heading to the courts.
We had a wander around the outside courts, dropping in on a couple of matches before heading to the Rod Laver Arena for the main event.
Andy started off in control, never looking in trouble, although there was a slight blip in the third set when he lost a serve, but he quickly reestablished his dominance as he won in straight sets. The atmosphere was great though with plenty of support for Andy along the local support for Nick. Kyrgious showed that he potentially has a great future in front of him. He just needs to smooth out the rough edges and toughen up mentally.
A great night was rounded off with an entertaining mixed doubles, where the Aussie pairing of Dellacque and Peers, who partners Jamie Murray, defeated Klepac and Guccione.
