Helloooo!
Well it's the penultimate day of camp, it's crazy! We started packing today and I'm done already which I'm happy about, it all fits just about! The kids haven't even started because they're too busy making each other plaques for their last year of camp with little messages and memories on, they look really cute actually. Olympics finished last night and it was pretty close in results. France won more sport plaques but we won the campership and sing plaques as well as marathon so both teams came out pretty equal. Olympics was fun but we had a lot of drama during them with 10th grade which took away from it a bit.
Basically me and one of the other senior counselors Julie found two of the 10th grade kids in the dug out behind the hall where they have been forbidden to go (last year so pretty dodgy things happened back there) they were warned if they were caught they would be sent home. As staff we were also warned that if we found anyone there we HAD to report it or our job was on the line so me and Julie took the girl and boy to Gail and Mike (division leaders) and the next day they were all packed and told they had to leave camp. The rest of the 10th grade were SO distraught you'd seriously think the 2 kids had died it was ridiculous! They then spent the whole day shouting abuse at me and Julie whenever they saw us for going to the leads about it, Julie got it worse than me though it was horrible! Half of my cabin wouldn't even speak to me for 2 days which I was really annoyed about because I am so leaniant with them over other stuff but they don't understand that we don't want to lose our jobs just so they can sneak off and 'hook up'.
Anyway, the parents refused to come pick their children up from camp because the parents are just as bad as the children seriously so in the end they got to stay because short of sticking them on a train home there was nothing camp could do. Me and Julie are annoyed because we've been persecuted by the whole of 10th grade now for doing our job and camp didn't follow through on their part of the deal. Also other staff let things like this slide which makes us look worse so I'm definitely going to go talk to Jeff and Cindy about that because some staff didn't even support us.
My kids are fine with me today and they even apologised although they still don't get that I was just doing my job, they said they'd have to be a counselor before they'd understand.
Apart from all that drama camp has been pretty quiet, I spent my last couple of nights off at the mall and bar taking it easy, we had a black out monday night though which was crazy, you literally could see nothing in front of your face! We had to be driven up to our cabins in a golf cart lol. Tonight we have a banquet meal and dance which should be fun then tomorrow there's a carnival at camp before we finish packing. The kids leave about 9am sunday morning and then we have a BBQ and watch a video of highlights from the summer before we get a bus into NYC at 2pm, it's going to be so sad! :( I'm spending that night in NYC with everyone in a hostel and then going to the airport about 7:30am on Monday morning for my flight to Nashville, so exciting!
Anyway I'd better go now, speak to you all soon hopefully from Nashville!!!
Love Hannah xxx
