Hi!
So finally after a week of waiting and wondering, Camp Echo Olympics 2009 has broken!!! It was really good how they did it actually, the whole camp went to watch one of the old buildings on the edge of camp grounds be bulldozed and then the captains and leiutenants of olympics made it so that it looked like the building somehow caught on fire. A fire engine arrived and out of it jumped all the captains and leiutenants with a big sign saying break out and then a Spanish and a French flag (two very obvious teams though compared to last year's Hungary and Panama!) Quite a few of the staff picked to be leaders in Olympics are my friends so I'm well proud of them! It was my day off yesterday but we stayed around camp because we knew break out would happen. Afterwards we found out our teams, I'm white team which is Spain. Then we went to our meeting places and started practising chants and songs. In the night we had the opening ceremony which was absolutely amazing. It it is by far the best and most impressive thing to happen all summer so far, I actually think it could rival the real olympics it was THAT good! It must have took ages to set up, we had lots of burning objects around and the rings were obviously lit at the end but before that there was about an hour of absolutely amazing dancing with different themes such as a pirate one, an indian one, a Scottish dance and loads more. There was also a march with flags which was really cool. They did them to really good choice of music too like the Pirates of the Carrabean song, Gladiator and Last of the Mohicans (which no one else knew around me but I got excited all the same, I knew my family would get it! haha).
One of my girls got picked as a camper captain (there are 6 altogether) and it's caused a problem in the bunk because the other girls wanted it and are jealous. It's the first problem I've really had with them at all and it's sad it has to come so close to the end! They seem a lot better today but they were so horrible to her yesterday I had to keep having a go at them, they were also crying about it like their family had just been murdered or something...seriously it was so dramatic they deserve oscars!
Today the 10th grade girls have played Soccer and Basketball. Spain lost both but we cheered REALLY loud (losing my voice) so we got a lot of campership points. The campers on our country seem to be the less sporty but we keep telling them we can't get disheartened otherwise we've already lost, I have faith in Spain!
Olympics is so stressful though as fun and as exciting as it is, this is my first break all day and it's gone 5pm! I'm going to go help my girls write the song for closing ceremony now and put my creative skills to use haha. Speak to you all soon! Oh and....GO SPAIN!!!!
Love Hannah xxx
