03.07.10 NZ - The JOBS!
After getting settled in our house there was not much else to do but wait to start work so we filled our time with coffee, snowboarding and alcohol. I managed to have a couple of great days snowboarding and even managed a tiny jump off one of the boxes in the park. On 23rd June it snowed in town. Apparently it doesn't happen that often but Adam woke up and started screaming like a child on Christmas morning telling us all to look out the window. The flakes were huge but with my banging headache I crawled straight back under my duvet while Adam tramped off to work. The hangover was thanks to Sam! I had wanted to go to a wine tasting in town which we did and it was great fun. We learnt about Mahi wine made in Marlborough in New Zealand's south island and we even made our own wine which tasted like @#$% Needless to say we didn't win the competition. However, 8 glasses of wine later Sam and I headed to the liquor store (I haven't gone all American, that's what it's actually called here!) and bought 3 litres of wine which we then sat up until the small hours drinking till it was all gone. A good night but not a good morning!
After the snow fall the snow on the mountains was fab and Adam and Paul who are of similar ability went off piste and ended up colliding with one another. The result was a bruise on Adam's ass bigger than I have ever seen in my life. I didn't even think you could have a bruise that big. We are now 1 week on and the bruise has grown and spread even more than the picture, not sure if we should be seeking medical advice but it's keeping us entertained! Unfortunately there has been no more snow since then and the mountain is pretty much just ice now so we're looking forward to next weekend when we're expecting some more.
Adam started his job at Searle Lane and Social in town in his usual 50 hour week style but things are not quite going to plan on that front so I will keep you posted with updates as there may be a complete change next week.
As for me, I started work on 25th July and they eased me in gently with a 7 day week with no days off totalling over 50 hours. It has been hard work but I have learnt loads already. I am going to be starting off with about 6 weeks in housekeeping and then I will be moving into a duty managers role. It is going to be a long 6 weeks, that I do know but hey, beggars can't be choosers.
I've had the past couple of days off and went to the Central Otago wine experience with Adam which was good fun, I'm getting to be a bit of a connoisseur I tell you! We also went to the rail jam, I've uploaded only a couple of pics but it was so cold we went home. And please, don't come on here telling me how fantastically hot it is at home because I don't want to hear it.
That's about all for now, off to watch Monsters Inc on the TV, been looking forward to it all day J
Love You, Love Us
