Wanaka - Just a flying visit
Adam and I decided to take a day trip to Wanaka. It is only 1 hour north of here and we got to drive along the crown range with fascinating views and although Stella got us there she had a bit of rear wheel spin issue en route. We stopped off at Cardona on the way for some breakfast at one of the oldest hotels in New Zealand, only the 1800s mind but still old for here. The weather was pretty iffy all day but stayed dry. Wanaka was similar to Queenstown in many ways. The views are stunning but not quite like QT and the town was similar but just smaller. Although I liked Wanaka I am glad to be living in Queenstown. We managed to pack a multitude of activities into our 1 day. We went to a place called puzzling world where they have loads of optical illusions like a room full of concave faces which appear convex and look like they move to follow you as you walk around the room. It freaked Adam out a bit methinks. There was also an outdoor maze, the first modern maze to be built in the world, and I'm afraid to say I got stuck. I couldn't find my way out. We first had to find 4 coloured towers, which I managed, but finding the exit proved to be too much for me and I cheated. I climbed under 1 fence and found my way out from there, shameful!
I had organised a little surprise for Adam, we went clay pigeon shooting at a place called Have a Shot. We decided to share a box of bullets and thank god we did. I hit the first shot I made but I couldn't believe the power the gun had, it made me have to step back every time I fired it. Adam on the other hand was a natural and really enjoyed it. He had a 40% hit rate which, for his first time, was pretty awesome.
After I practically broke my shoulder (maybe I am being a little dramatic on this point) we headed to the Rippon valley vineyard to try some free vino. The wine was lovely and Adam and I will definitely be going back in the spring time to see the vineyard in colour as the view would be spectacular. It was then a meander round town before heading to cinema paradiso where you can sit in a morris minor, a bean bag or just a big old sofa while watching your movie. There was even an interval where we bought freshly baked cookies and stuffed ourselves with pizza. It was the perfect end to our day.
