Day 59
We had a delicious breakfast at the historic Hotel Seward, walked around the quaint little downtown, then went to the Alaska Sea Life Center. The Sea Life Center has incredible aquarium displays and marine life exhibits. We saw puffins, murres, and other sea birds; harbor seals, Steller sea lions, octopus - all live exhibits and such fun to watch the dynamics of these animals.
After that amazing experience, we drove around town to take pictures of Michael's old house, which, sadly is in foreclosure and pretty run down with an overgrown yard. There was a notice on the front door that the owner had skipped town owing payments on the house and they even posted her name. Looking through the windows, we could see that she left a lot of her things, furniture, pots and pans, etc. It was a shame because you could see that this was once a cute house. Anyway, Michael was able to point out a couple of trees he had planted and the brown paint peeling on the picket fence was his paint job 25 years ago.
Next stop down memory lane was the US Forest Service Ranger Station, where Michael was the Assistant District Ranger, 1984-1988. It was fun for us to talk with the person there, and to see his old building.
We took a drive around the bay, to see Seward from across Resurrection Bay, then we drove back, and out Lowell Road. Saw a sea otter swimming on his back, diving, coming up with food, then swimming on his back eating his catch. Cute.
