Yes we are still in Rome or more correctly back in Rome!!!!! We disembarked our cruise ship today, sadly, as we had such a good time and made some lovely friends while on board. The ship was great and the food was of high quality and continuous!!!! Evidience of that is on both Mart's and my hips!!!!!!!!!
We saw some great pat of Itlay.........first Portafino was beautiful and we drove from there to the Cinque Terra to walk along the track for a short part. The scenery was amazing and kept taking our breath away. The ship was only anchored here an d so we had to get to shore by the tender boats (life boats) which was an interesting expereince and decided that the 15 minutes it took to get is from boat to shore was way long enough and the very thought of being stuck on there longer in an emergency was a daunting thought especailly as there were only half the amount of people on there as it was licensed to carry!!!!!
Next Port was Livorno, which is close to Florence and Pisa!!!!! for too days. Well!!!!!......Pisa......been there done that don't need to go back!!!!!
Florence we were a bit disapointed with (not helped by the fact that we wre very tired and not in the mood) It was very busy and quite warm. You felt very closed in and many bad odours!!! T make it worse David was in scaffolding and we couldn't see him!!!! not happy Jan!!!!! Maybe we ned t go back in another time but at the minute have no desire to do so!!!!!
The second day in Livorno we wnet to Lucca which was a lovely country town which is enclosed by a huge wall.......very pretty
Martin was also grumpy because he bought a waflle with ice cream in and made the fatal mistake of not sking how much!!!! It was 10 euro ($20) and he didn't even enjoy it but ate it on principal......I am sure it gave him indigestion!!!!!!
HOORAY, next was a day at sea!!! We generally just hung arond, slept, swam and Martin played mini golf etc etc!!! A good time to get to know our new friends who were seated at our table!!!
icily Messina was the next port of call and here we fell in love with a small village called Taormina!!!! It was so beautiful and luckily we were there only for a short time as I could have spent plenty of money ther. Mart bought some boat sgoes for his boat at home and we bought some tiles to make up our name at the front door as ceramics is one of their specialities!! After Taormina we lcimbed the mountains up some very narrow roads to get to Mt Etna!!! Several times the coach had o st and reverse so the another car could pass........not nice!!! Mt Etna was intersting and although it was covered with cloud it was inteesting to see the lav and how it came down the hill and also how quickly the temperature dropped as we climbed the hill. Lunch was inlcuded in this tour and as usual the food was over plentful with the best lasagne we have ever tasted (including Lynette?s ....sory!!!) and Mat managd to get stuck int the red wine, which is quickly acquiring a taste for.
Thankfully we had another day at sea and it was a very very lazy day, slept in and then dozed by the pool and inour room....lovely!!!!
Split Croatia was next and it was lovely too, very picturesque (?) We drive up into the countryside which was lovely and it was very clean and tidy which was a pleasant change as most of Italy has been very dirty with alot of litter everywhere.
Venice was next for two days and this would have to be one of our favourite places. Busy but not too busy to enjoy and very very pretty. The first day we did a walking tour of the back streets of Venice which was quite eye opening and we learnt alot about life in Venice. Then we wandered on our own for a while before metting up withour ship firends for dinner in Venice as the ship was staying in Port. We wnt to a resturant which was recommended to us as one couple of our ship buddies come from Sicily oroigainally and speaks fluent Italian led the way. We had trouble finding it down the narrow streets even with Sam asking at every second store!!!! Eventually we arrived and had a wondeful meal, Sam made us all try Lemoncello, a italian liquor, very nice but I paid for it for a couple of days!!! Much wine was consumed by the rest of them as wel, which made for an interesting trek back to the ship as we wandered the streets on Venice fr what seemed foreer till we eventually arrived back at St Mark's Square....A memorable night indeed!!!!! The second day we wne to the Murano glass factory which was lovely but veru over priced w thought and then back to the ship to rest again and set sail early!!!!
Dobrovnik saw us arriving late at 10am and as we did not book a tour for this day as we were feeling exhausted, we had a slow start and then made our own way into the town. It is truly beautiful place and we already want to go back there. Rather foolishly/naively we decided to walk around the to of the wall that surrounds the city!!!! It was hot, very steep and stairs that were scary going up or down!!!!!, but never the less it was worth it for the view!!!.....I think?????? Once back on flatish ground we ran into our firend s and had coffee with them and just wandered for a bit before heading back to the ship for a sleep and lazy afternoon.
Yayyyyyyyy!!!!! another day a sea!!! Slept in and did next to nothing all day!!!!!!!
Our port before returning to Rome was Naples. As soo soon the ship had docked we went on a tour to Pompei which was very intersting and although very warm we enjoyed oue walk through the inearthed remains of an Ancient city. Once back at the port we walked into Naples to see if there was anything to see and to get a Margharetta Pizza as they aparently originated from Naples!!! whether that is tue or not we are not sre but we do know that it was the best pizza we have ever had!!!!
I managed to buy a Prada bag here as they had quite good shopping!!!!
Bck to the ship to pack and get organised to leave in the morning and for Mart to prepare himself for the Kareoke Grand Final which he managed to get himself into!!!!!!!I think that that is more than enough information for you all the absorb in one session, so I will sign off now and leave it for Martin to give you a run down on life on the ship another day!!! We have a coulpe of quiet days in Rome before we head off to Prague, so should get caught up with all of our bloggs and photos in the next couple of days.
Take care all of you.
Love Kerry and Martin XXX
