The camp is great but it is not all work! There are always weekend trips when you get to see the best Cambodia has to offer. And there is definitely time to party. But I will get to that later Temples first.
Have to admit, I wasn't too keen on the temples. Simply because since I saw a couple in Bali last year I thought I know what to expect. But fortunately they were not even similar.
Imagine a quiet walk in a forest or in a park... And then suddenly in between trees you are starting to see a huge, impressive, enormous.... hm... building? A massive temple that blows your mind and makes your jaw drop. Then you get closer and realise that almost every stone that was used to build this temple is imprinted/engraved with a story. Or you can see a face on every corner of the temple. This was my favourite temple called Bayonne http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayon. Or there is a massive tree with its roots pushing through the walls of the temple. One like that is right by the camp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beng_Mealea). I also visited Ta Prohm temple where Tomb Raider was filmed! And of course the famous Angkor Wat!
Unlike anywhere in UK, where we lost the right to move without being reminded about health and safety, you can really explore here!! I climbed to the very top of every temple that was possible, got lost in the maze of corridors, climbed over windows and of course read the stories that the stones were telling me.
I was honoured to have Beng Mealea camp manager Bunlay Thong guiding me through the temples. Bunlay is the most knowledgeable, amazing man in Cambodia!!
Bunlay, if you are reading I would like to say thanks a million - my experience would not have been half what it was without your expertise and your stories.
