George's World Travels
hi,
I had my first day at the orphanage today. I'm working with 1-2 year olds, same age group as Holly, my little sister. Though itd be nice and all, and have experience with age group but more sad really. some of the kids are so unresponsive. justy blank faces almost all the time. however much i tried to make them laugh. Other kids seem 'normal' which is abit more reassuring. The rooms that theyre in are ok. The play area is quite big and is colourful with a mini slide, mini trampoline and lots of toys.
Then theres a room with four mini tables and three chairs around each where the kids have their meals. Then theres the bathroom and bedroom. One thing that disturbed me is that for their nap at 1pm theyre put in their cots etc and then just left. door closed. i mean, none of them cried or anything. but still.
The two women im working with speak hardly any english at all, which is hard. Im working from 8.30am to 2pm, but as the kids go to sleep at 1pm for at least until 2, i have nothing, i mean NOTHING to do for an hr. As the women dont speak English I just tried to look at a random book. Is silly. Theres no point me being there if not helping. Just wasting time. So have asked Tugi to see if I cam leave at 1pm instead, and will have less break, or might not have break at all, and just have lunch after i leave. Thats what the other volunteer does who works there. I met her today. Shes really nice, Meryll. Wow I remembered her name. For some reason it just hasnt stuck. She lives really close to me so we're gonna walk dwon to the orphanage in the morning together and think she finishes around same time as me too, so hopefully will have lunch with her too.
I got my medical clothes from Tugi today to wear at the orphanage. At first thought was bit strange them being so strict on hygiene and stuff but after being there makes sense.
I have discovered the greatness of Star movies, a channel on my TV. Actually has some half decent movies on sometimes. Like at weekend theres meet joe black.
