Have been making some rather interesting observations since we have been here:
1. Cats here are MASSIVE (Rocky would have some competition), especially compared to the anorexic ones all over Greece.
2. There is a ridiculous and rather disturbing number of Speedos and very tight, short and most often see through shorts worn on the beaches.
To make this worse, there is a breed we have begun to refer to as 'Davids' (after Michelangelos David) who stand at the shore, legs apart, one knee slightly bent, hands on hips, drawing attention to their manhood; in aforementioned apparel nothing is left to the imagination! These 'Davids' will scan the beach/water or gaze dreamily into the distance with their head cocked to the side.
After an epic thunderstorm last night, it was still raining so slept in again. Stomachs grumbling for foccacia we were forced to get out of bed and mission it down the hill. Finally the rain cleared up after lunch so we could hit the beach. Here we were witness to possibly the most disturbing 'David' we have seen yet - let me paint a picture: about 70, beer gut, very hairy, yellow and red Hawaiian speedos. Ugh. After sitting about 10cm away from me and giving us creepy looks on the sly he moved down the beach where he stood in standard 'David' position directly in front of a girl sitting there....awkward.... not surprisingly she was struggling with where to look! Sunbathed out it was time for our last meal in Italy - sad face! It wouldn't be right if we didn't....PIZZA! Nom nom nom. Back to our picnic spot accompanied by 3 bottles of very cheap vino, the perfect way to farewell Italy - but something was missing, something that has played a huge part in the development of our Italian food babies; Mario (Zaras) and Antonio (mine)....GELATO! A bit pissed we stumbled down the hill to the gelato store and proceeded to order massive waffle cones. Upset at the colour of the nutella gelato, Zara yelled at the gelato man... "nutella is supposed to be brown!" before launching into song "ananas and bananas, ananas and bananas" (ananas is Italian for pineapple) Nat then pipes up "I want more of the yoghurt one!" Poor gelato man, actually I'm pretty sure we were the highlight of his day.
