Team Kiwi take on the Cinque Terre Hike. Set off from our hilltop residence in Riomaggiore, amped to dominate the five towns in record time. Two towns (Manarola and Corniglia) down we were going very well, this was easy, Sarah even suggesting we could walk all the way back from the last town instead of catching the train. Stopped for a drink then off to the fourth town, Vernazza...and this is where this is where things stepped up...literally...hundreds of steps. Stunning views along the coast and down to clear blue water calling our names teased us from the top.
Sweating like pedophiles at the playground, stumbled into Vernazza for foccacia and hydration. Sarah even fell asleep on the bench while Zara and I went to the bathroom! Last leg, and notoriously the hardest did not start well when we couldn't find the way out of town. Eventually found the path and were greeted with many, many more very steep stairs. Joy. Decided to try out running up the stairs to get it over with faster, I reckon it was easier - no-one believed me...Fantastic scenery the whole way along, climbing through olive groves and along the coast. Descended into Monterosso, the fifth town of the Cinque Terre, for the most deserved swim we have ever had! Parched as bro, wandered into the town in search of juice boxes, stopped at a bikini shop where the owner told Zara to go shower! Haha. Exhausted but stoked after an awesome and rewarding day caught the train back to Riomaggiore. Pizza and wine for dinner at the top of the hill watching the sunset.....Ahhhh....
