This morning was going to be a very quiet one, we had to check out of the hostel at 10am and we had a couple of hours to kill before we could pick up the hire car!! Yes - we have hired a car, for the people that don't know me- last time I was in the states I crashed a hire car in Tampa! Oops. But this time I wasn't going to do that! We had breakfast around the corner, it was rough, and I wouldn't eat their again. We walked around the shopping centre to get a sat nav. As this is going to help on Route 66 and it's cheaper to buy one that rent one. Except the only place on hollywood blvd that sold them was this posh vending machine that wouldn't accept our credit cards from the UK.
We knew there was a best buy not to far away so we would head there once we had picked up the car. Our car was a black Nissan "something" not sure what model, it was ok - I won't lie I was bricking myself a little about driving it, but just got on with it. It was fine. Felt like rude boys driving down hollywood blvd. Chris had got the directions on his phone to the Best Buy, and we set off. With only a couple of wrong ways, we found it and picked up the sat nav. We didn't really want to waste the rest of the day, the weather was lovely and we drove to Santa Monica beach, it was perfect, time to work on the tan.
Three hours in the sun was nice and went so quick but we had to head off and do our washing, as we didn't want to do it while the girls were here, and we had some time to kill. Their was a laundromat around the corner from the girls hotel so we spent a couple of hours there. Very exciting stuff, actually we did have the best ice cream while we were waiting, strawberry cheesecake with actual lumps of cheesecake in it! Fit. With lovely smelling washing we still had some time to kills as we didn't need to be at the airport until about 7pm when the girls arrive.
We headed to the Westfield shopping centre that wasn't to far from the airport , all the shops seemed a little posh for us, but they did have a Hollister and Apple, so we were able to rob there wifi for a little while. We then left for the airport, it wasn't as simple as you might think - the sat nav is a little slow and doesn't give you the instructions in time, but we managed to get parked at LAX terminal 2 where the Air New Zealand flights arrived. We were only in the terminal about 10 minutes before the girls appeared from the baggage hall. No tears, but a few hugs and we made our way to the car! We just managed to get the girls suitcases in with our rucksacks! (As we had to check out from the hostel!)
The drive to the hotel was long, they bloody love traffic lights in LA this with a few wrong turns delayed us. Arriving at the hotel we checked in and unloaded the car, they have onsite car park which is a great help! Of course they charge for it tho! The girls were Hungary and so were me and Chris so we headed to Hard Rock on Hollywood Blvd! The nachos were a must!
By the time we got back to the room, it was 6:30 in the morning for the girls. So they went out like a light, I set up my camp bed and crashed out as well.. The girls were really lucky to experience my grinding teeth!! Lol.
