The bus journey was ok, I managed to sleep a lot of it. Chris was about 3 rows behind me. We had a scheduled stop at some town in the middle of nowhere. I hadn't seen but a strange crazy woman had sat next to Chris . He always gets people sitting next to him. (I had told him to come and sit with me if he loses his spare seat!) I wouldn't want to sit next to a crazy if I didn't have to.
Chris told me that she had pulled his leg to wake him up As he was actually fast asleep. She took her seat next to him and started talking to Chris asking loads of questions. When Chris said he was form England, she said "I have people from England on my Facebook! Some of them I even know!" You'll have to get Chris to explain the story more as he does the best impression of her. It was cracking me up!
At six o'clock in the morning, we had a break stop. I woke up and looked around at Chris - he grabbed his bag and came and sat next to me, ha ha and told me about the woman! It was still dark. The stop was only 15 minutes and as well pulled away, Chris's friend shouted out "We are missing someone!" Chris looked around and said I am over here... She replied "good - see we care on greyhound!" - I am sure Chris must have been thinking I moved because your a nut job. She was kind of witch looking.
We only had about an hour left on the bus, the sunrise was good, couldn't get any good pictures because the windows onboard the bus were so dirty.
Arrived in the Sacramento greyhound and a security guy said we could walk into the city, so we did. The walk was about 30 minutes, the streets are labeled as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc in one direction and then A, B, C, D etc in the other direction! Arrived at the hostel early and couldn't check in until 2pm.
We just hung around the hostel until 9 o'clock when the town should start to open. This was going to be another break up journey towns. Sacramento is actually the capital of California! There was no one on the streets. They have a massive government building with gardens and grounds. When we arrived here this was the first time we had seen some people. It looked as of they were doing some kind of emergency services award. It look a little like the police academy film, with all the plastic white folding chairs. People were walking around I'm their full uniforms, police - even loads of people in kilts and what I gather firemen carrying silver headed axes! (Unless these guys where getting prepared to travel on greyhound!)
The gardens were nice, and we walked around for a short while before heading to the shopping centre and old Sacramento. We both picked up a couple of clothing items as we run out so quick. We needed to do washing now, but weren't allowed to use the laundry until this afternoon. When I got back I needed a shower after night bus, and wanted a clean top to get changed into!
The old town was my favourite part of the town. It had loads of shops, restaurants, located on the river and they had a massive railroad museum. We got a drink from a small cafe, I went for the vanilla milk shake. You should have seen it, 8 scoops of ice cream, a splash of milk and put in a blender. Topped with whipped cream. It was amazing but I have just eaten my daily calories in one drink! I even managed to pour some of it down me!
One of the shops was offering free sweets! Salt water taffy! I love this stuff, so I must have walked around helping my self to all the nice flavours. Then left. I didn't actually want to buy any! There were a lot of tattoo places around the place - tempted, but decided not to. Hitting the sunshine soon!!
We walked to the shop to find some food supplies and then walked back through the ghetto to our hotel. Our hostel was a massive manor house. It could have been form a haunted movie. We were still not able to check in, so we chilled down in the basement television room and watch a movie.
Finally we were able to see our room and do some washing! Chucked all our clothes in the washing machine, we hadn't showered now for over 24 hours! And god we needed it.
I felt so much better after the shower, clean at last. We sorted out our washing and then made some lunch. It was like a microwave noodle dish. It was alright. There wasn't much more to do in Sacramento. So we watched another movie and I caught up on some of my blogs! As I am so far behind!
We had got a packet macaroni cheese, this also wasn't that great, but we had to eat it as neither of us fancied walking around the street at night. It could be the USA equivalent town to Winnipeg.
This is going to sound really sad, but we actually headed up to the dorm about nine o'clock. Early I know, but really there wasn't anything to do. Chatted to a guy in the dorm from Maine, he is also travelling down the west coast.
Just as I had got ready for bed, a massive bee/wasp had managed to get into the lamp shade - the ceilings were really high in our room and we couldn't do anything about it, it just buzzed around hitting the ligh bulb. It was driving me mad. It must have been doing this for about half an hour, until it finally died! We did try and get it out, but couldn't reach even when standing on a chair.
Chris was doing his work out! Sit up's and stuff, and noticed loads of bugs on the carpet. I had also noticed the same things around the fireplace where my rucksack was. Have these places never heard of a vacuum cleaner! I couldn't sleep after this, and was awake until the early hours.
