We are staying at Dosewallips State Park this evening just outside of a small town called Brinnon. This is an unscheduled stop and it looks as if we may be here for a couple of days. Mary has been having some problems with her bike trailer and this afternoon as we reached the summit of Mount Walker I noticed that the axle that held the trailer to the bike seemed loose. We tried to tighten the bolt to no avail. I thought the threads might be stripped. There was nothing to do at that time except to slowly make our way to the next town to get help. Thankfully the trailer stayed attached to the bike.
We safely arrived at Brinnon and were directed to the local mechanic, Keith. He kindly took the time to examine the problem, realized that he would be unable to fix it and allowed the use of his phone for Mary to call the trailer manufacturer about getting new parts. He then directed us to Dosewallips State Park where we will stay until the needed part arrived. While we were setting up camp Keith was able to talk to the manufacturer who gave him instructions on how to fix the axle. As well, they will send a new part out tomorrow morning. So the bike and trailer are once again usable but we will not trust it again and will wait here until the new part arrives.
So tomorrow is an unscheduled rest day. A little early in the tour for rest days but plans sometimes need to be adjusted for the unplanned events.
The good thing about all this is that the local restaurant has free WiFi and good food! And our campsite has water and power so I don't have to sit in front of the washroom waiting for my stuff to recharge. When camping, these simple conveniences are much appreciated.
