67 miles and the wind was our friend today. Yes, the same wind I was complaining about yesterday. We made good time because of that strong tailwind. Our decision to follow the advice of the bike shop guys and stay on 101 rather than take the designated bike route over "The Seven Devil's Road" proved to be a good one. Can you imagine anyone recommending a road with that name- Seven Devil's - to cyclists? Apparently it is aptly named. Whereas Hwy 101 was smooth blacktop, wide shoulders and easy grades to climb. The bike shop guy said that either way there wasn't much to see until we got to Bandon. And they were correct. Mostly trees and pavement. But Bandon was a different story. This is where we started riding closer to the shoreline. The beaches and rock stacks were heart stopping. It took us a long while to ride through the town along The Beach Loop because we stopped frequently to take in the view as well as snap a lot of photos. Once past Bandon the going was fairly quick and easy. Stopped in Port Orford for groceries and rode the next 6 miles to Humbug Mountain, arriving around 2:30, giving us an afternoon to relax and explore. There is only one other cyclist in the camp tonight, Blue. We have been meeting him frequently on the road as he is traveling a similar route. It's one of the fun aspects of this tour - meeting others on the same journey. Some we leave behind , others move past us, and a few like Blue seem to be traveling at a similar pace.
Tomorrow is our last full day in Oregon and then look out California. Here we come!
