Cloudy and cool all day, great cycling weather! 46 miles of easy riding from Bay Center to Astoria - Fort Stephens State Park. We will not take a rest
day tomorrow but will ride to Nehalem State Park and we are back on schedule.
Highlights of the day: riding across the Astoria bridge- 4.5 miles long, narrow bike lane, bridge work being done which meant single lane traffic in some places. The bridge itself wasn't so bad except for those super huge RV's passing with about an inch of space between them and me, as well, there was that steep climb at the end. It felt like a mile straight up with a lot of adrenaline keeping us going because we were afraid to stop! But once off the bridge it was an easy 8 miles to the park.
Highlight # 2: meeting a German couple, Susan and Bruno, who are cycling down to Central America or as far as they can get with a 3 month visa. How exciting!
Highlight #3: being in the park at the same time as a Recumbent Bike Retreat was happening. I got to talk to several people about their bikes, we were invited to join their campfire tonight and I got to test ride a recumbent trike. It was a lot of fun to ride. Who knows maybe that will be the next addition to my bike collection?
All in all a very good day.
