Boudha is a village a few kilometres out of Kathmandu, although nowadays it's built up area the whole way.
Back in 1991 (and 1993) it was possible to walk a short distance from Pashupatinath, see the Stupa in the near distance and walk straight to it.
Today we had pulled up right outside before we saw it down a narrow laneway, such is the density of buildings.
There was a Buddhist Stupa at this site as early as AD 600 but Mughal invaders destroyed it in the 14th Century - it seems they did that a lot throughout India & Nepal. To be fair, they did also build the Taj Mahal and many other beautiful structures.
A very important Buddhist centre is this, with many long term residents being refugees from Tibet. There is a special feeling about this place - despite the large number of shops surrounding much of the plinth.
