Hi all.
Today's trip was to a Hindu Temple complex called Pashupatinath, located on the holy Bagmati River. As often happens here, the sacred and the profane exist side by side - the main runway of the International Airport is very close to the Temples.
Pashupati (the lord of the beasts) is a gentle form or aspect of Shiva and this site attracts many wandering Holy men called Saddhus. These fellows often travel around from one Shiva temple to another. We showed some photo's we had taken of other Saddhus at this spot back in 1991 & some of the locals recognised a couple of them, indicating one was in Varanasi (or Benares as they called it - the old name for Varanasi) and the other in Germany!
Due to it's importance and location on a river this complex also is used as a cremation spot and there are quite a few 'burning ghats' located along the western banks of the river - 3 or 4 were in use while we were there.
