You probably heard about the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck in the border region of Nepal and (Indian) Sikkim a few days ago.
No doubt there was damage in eastern Nepal, with a wall of the British Embassy in Kathmandu (270klm from the epicentre) collapsing, killing 3 people including an 8 year old girl.
We contacted the Hotel we are staying at for the 1st few days next week and received the following reply:-
"Namaste.
Thank you very much for your concern about us. God saved us and no injury or damage was done to us.
Look forward to serving you.
Warmest regards,
Yours sincerely,
Mukhiya gurung"
Not quite so lucky in Siliguri & Darjeeling (both Towns being closer to the earthquake than Kathmandu) where there was a lot of damage. The picture of Desley shown above was taken in Darjeeling in 2006 and the mountainous area behind her & to the right is about where the Earthquake hit.
