We walked to the Durbar Marg (Palace Square) today. Unlike last time you now have to pay an entrance fee to visit - 300 Rupees (about $4.00 AUD) each.
It's a wonderful place, packed with temples, statues & all sorts of people. The Hanuman Dhoka (inner palace area) is also located here. Most of the buildings were built in the 17th Century (by King Pratap Malla) but Royalty have lived (or used to live I should say) in the 'new' Palace for the last 100 years or so.
A very special event today - we were able to see the Kumari Devi (Living Goddess) as she made one of her very rare appearances at the window of her home, the Kumari Bahal. The current Kumari is 11 years old and will remain in her Role until she reaches Puberty, at which time she is replaced.
We didn't run into our friend the fake Saddhu - he must be on annual leave.
