Day Four:Today?is history.Cindy and I began our day with the intention of walking all of the Museums we could find. After assessing the pain in our legs from yesterday, we decided on a much less ambitious plan?the German History Museum in Babelplatz (opposite direction from Brandenburg Gate on Unter den Linden) as it was much closer. While in Babelplatz, we took some photos of the Humboldt University (not the fake one in CA, but the real one in Berlin). Check out the pictures of the armor (armour for you British people) as well as the propaganda posters?visually powerful place. Along the way Napoleon asked if he could take his picture with me, and even though this was a distraction (kind of like when Katie kept asking for my number at the chocolate store?see yesterday's blog) I obliged. I finished the tour with a photo commemorating the 20th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech (20 years ago, sportsfans?am I the only one who feels old?)After a late lunch and brief rest at the hotel, we decided that walking was out and it was time to brave the Streetcars of Berlin. Our first stop was the Kaiser Wilhelm Church (the famous one which was left in it's bombed out state at the end of the second world war). This was an interesting area in that we encountered many of the "street punk" teenagers?think gothic wardrobe and black makeup, spiked leather, Mohawks, etc. The church is located in the west and we have spent most of our time in the east and the center of Berlin. From there we went back East, further than our Hotel to visit the St. Marian's Church (built around 1250 and one of the few buildings to survive WWII unscathed. Ironically, it was under re-construction from a fire about 20 years ago?) Another Gothic street punk enclave?I think I have found our small group's next outreach?the churches of Berlin! From there back across the Spree River to our hotel and this blog. Currently about 9:00pm, so hopefully you are reading this on your lunch hour!Tomorrow morning, while all of you are sleeping we will hit the train for Dresden. Take care and God Bless!P.S. Here our observations of Berliners1. Drink Coffee standing up2. Eat while walking3. Smoke and talk on cell phones while riding bicycles (on busy streets)4. Takes 4 hours to drink one beer at a restaurant (but eat while walking?)? How do these people out live Americans (is it the chocolate?)
