Today didn't quite pan out as planned as just before we were about to set off Sophie was stung by what we think was a wasp. She was in absolute agony so we had to rush down to the chemist for anti-histamine cream, plus everything else the French pharmacist insisted we needed. There is at least one pharmacy in every village, easily found with their flashing green crosses - the sign of a country full of hypochondriacs! Sophie took along time to recover and with Jonathan complaining of very sore feet (they are all cracked from the sun and walking on hot stones by the police) we ditched our plans of heading south to la Camargue for the day. Very disappointing but I definitely want to come back to the south of France so I can visit that area then. I'm sure I'll still be able to ride a horse at sixty if I have to!
Plan B for today was to return to L'Isle sur la Sorgue for a wander and ice cream. Jat and the girls joined us so we had a pleasant wander around and watched a crazy teenager dive for all the pennies that had been thrown into the river by tourist, he looked absolutely frozen! When Jat and the girls headed home we decided to stay for lunch. Lunch is big in France. It is definitely the meal of the day and boy do they eat a lot. We found a lovely cafe/restaurant on the side of the river and ordered Le menu du jour ( capriccio of salmon and then chicken in a sauce with veges) and a croque Monsieur which came with salad and fries. This should have only fed two people but it fed all four of us with leftovers!
With the temperature rising to over 30degrees we headed home for our last afternoon by the pool, pizza for dinner and the job of packing up. It will be sad to say good bye to our little home in Cheval Blanc, it really is a beautiful spot to base ourselves as well as spend time with Roz, Jat, Mia, Kiyana and Lola. The children have had an amazing time together and will be very sad to say goodbye tomorrow.
Tomorrow we plan to head north towards the French Alps. Jonny really is desperate to see a mountain so depending on how we go we hope to stay in a small mountain village east of Lyon. Jonny would like to get as far as Chamonix but that would entail a lot of double tracking back to Paris the next day so hopefully we will find something a bit closer....

Joanie Dillon So jealous of all the ice creams you are having. They were the highlight of my days in Europe. Thank you for the wonderful blog. - 6 here this morning - very icy dangerous conditions on the roads - enjoy summer!!!
Hewitt family Loving your blog. Hope Sophie is feeling better after the stings. If its not too late - Bill suggested that Mont Ventoux might be easier to get to if J really needs to see a mountain. It's where the tour de france goes, bit of snow at the top and a good windy hill to climb up! Not quite enough to ski on but plenty of that back here! have fun
Mhairi flett Made it to Chamonix and not too bad a drive, gone from 30 degrees to minus 5! Brrrrrrrr
