Day 55: On our way to Mary River RH, we decide to unhitch the caravan at a camping area and do the 24kms of 4WD into Maguk. This road is one of the worst. Lots of corrugations, of every size! When we reach the bush camp, the road turns into a track and we must engage the 4WD 2H. The track winds us through the bush, through creek crossings and sand patches...but it's all in a days work for the Colorado. It's tough going, but when we finally get there, it's on...

Day 54: Yellow Water Billabong sunrise cruise. I arise to the quiet sound of my alarm, telling me it's 5.50am! I stagger to the bathroom, and by the time I get back, all boys are up and ready. We head to the bus that will take us to the dark watery wonderland that is Yellow Water. Everyone on board looks dreary eyed, so we dont look out of place. Day 53: It is today that Craig and I realise that we start our descent south...the beginning of the end! Neither of us is happy about it, and only Harry wants to get home(?). We pack up early and head to Gagadju Cooinda Lodge, which is on the other road in to Kakadu. This lodge gives us the tiniest site we have ever seen...I think they mistook us for a Britz Hiace van! Day 52: We take a drive out to the South Alligator River, to see if we can spot any crocs...no success. But we can appreciate that they are out there, hiding in this big, silty river. Craig is having a helicopter flight over Kakadu, so we drop him at the airport (yes...where there's a mine [uranium], there's an airport!) and watch him fly off for half an hour. Day 51: We say goodbye to Tumbling Waters, and head the 250+kms to Jabiru, Kakadu NP. We pass some wonderful scenery, wetlands and Pandanas forests, and we cross the notorious South Alligator River too. We drop into the Information Centre to gather info on the park, then set up camp at Kakadu Lodge. The kids have a swim before we head out to Ubirr, a place to view a lot of different Indigenous art and see the sunset. WOW! What a place. Amazing art protected u...
