Day 53: It is today that Craig and I realise that we start our descent south...the beginning of the end! Neither of us is happy about it, and only Harry wants to get home(?).
We pack up early and head to Gagadju Cooinda Lodge, which is on the other road in to Kakadu.
This lodge gives us the tiniest site we have ever seen...I think they mistook us for a Britz Hiace van! But we are only here for two nights, and away for the most part of the days.
The lodge also has 2 pools: a small one for the caravaners/campers, and a large, beautiful one for the hotel guests. But we have access to both...so you can guess where we went after we set up? That's right. I hope the people paying the big bucks didn't want peace and tranquility?!
After our refreshing dip, we make takeaway lunches and head to Jim Jim Falls. The road in to these falls is a 50km dirt road, with the last 10kms needing 4WD...sand, rocks and water crossings.
It's a great drive in and with all my 4WD experience now, I rise to the challenge easily for the last sandy, rocky, twisty, watery, and up-and-down bit of track!
It's a 900m walk up to the falls, but we have to climb over massive boulders to get there. We are thankful that it is a spectacular scene that greets us when we arrive, and that the swimming hole is magnificent.
We spend the afternoon here, swimming, jumping from rock ledges and just soaking up the wonder of this amazing place.
Unfortunately we spend the night sitting in the van, due to the mozzie attack that befell us during dinner time! It's a good thing we all need to go to bed early, ready for our early morning start.
Who says you can't swim in the Top End?
