Hi All,
So we got our bus out of Airlie Beach and guess who the bus driver was Kirsty??? Yes Squirtle, who says Austral-A and plays Alanis Morisset continuously and talks about how he is skint, hasn't been here for 6 months and has forgotten everything about the job and talks about sugar cane or at last 40 minutes of each journey! On the bus he thought we had lost someone at the fruit shop so we went back and he hadn't actually forgot anyone, its just cos there were THREE Eva's on the bus, yes THREE, at home nobody has the same name and here there are loads of us, I don't like it lol!! Anyhoo we got to Townsville and had a walk into town after we waited ages on our room to be ready and then we went to the cinema to see the new James Bond which is totally guff by the way so don't waste your pennies. At night we made chilli and hardly ate any of it as it was roasting and too hot to eat, weather wise I mean!
The next day we went and got our bus and it was the big white one from the day before again as Squirtle broke the other one. It had no air con and was cramped but the Scouse lassies we met at the Cattle Station were there so at least we had people to talk to. Squirtle told us to get our cameras out for this special tree that there is supposedly only one of left in the world so we all got out our cameras to see this famous bikini tree which turned out to actually be a tree that someone had put a bikini on lol!! Then we dropped some people off at Mission Beach and then headed up the coast to Innisfail Croc Farm which was awesome. They did great things with the crocs, they were only separate from us by a wire fence and one of the crocs actually had his tooth stuck in the fence and it had bent all the fence and also the feeder guy had a ripped shirt on, very comforting!! They got so close to them and left the gate open they could have quite easily got out. We fed more roos and saw a big cassowary, then the best bit was we went to see the dingoes which are wild dogs if you don't know, and they had wee pups so he got one out and let us all hold him and of course I was first in the queue lol, it was so cute, I want to get one of those too when I get home. We also got to hold a wee croc and a snake which I hated in case you cant tell from my face as it kept coming towards my chest or my face and it felt horrible and they had parrots too. I love all these places, there is nowhere like it at home where you can actually play with animals. As we were on Oz Experience it was only $14 too, bargain!! We got to Cairns at teatime and called Irene and Davie, Davie being Andrew's cousin who kindly said we could stay with them for a few nights while we were in town. So we were looking out for them and found them ok and they took us back to their house. The house is lovely, huge compared to houses at home and they have a pool which was well needed as it was about 35 degrees the whole time we were there. Guess what Kirsty - they even had a lovely bug bath and I didn't have one, it was too hot the one time I have been able to find a bath lol! We had a lovely dinner and some wine and a dip in the pool which was nice and off to our fully air-conditioned bed lol!
The next day Irene and Davie's grandson David Jr was round (its very confusing as there is David the granddad, David the son and David the wee one) was round and we all went to the local shopping centre and went to see if anyone had actually answered any of our job emails which they hadn't. Then it was back home for lunch at middle David's and then home for a swim to cool off from the 20 minutes in the heat lol! Wee David is a great wee swimmer and he is only 3! He also has twin baby sisters that are 8 months old and there mum Kanja is part Thai so all the wee ones have lovely dark eyes and olive skin, they were so so so cute!! Even the babies go to swimming lessons, they love the water. At night Davie and Irene were out so we took advantage of having a home to stay in lol and watched TV and ate lol! They have Boysenberry ice cream that we love and have eaten every day lol need to get some more of that soon! We made some phone calls home and got the sad news that Vinnie Pop's dog and my BODA (to anyone who is not Chloe that's Best of Dogs Always) had a heart attack and had to be put down. So we were very sad after that cos we love that dog and I pretty much cried till I fell asleep. Rest in peace wee Vinnie, we will miss you.
The next day we got up and my ye old faithful shorts broke, the last stud finally fell off. We were in Cairns so we had a look about and I bought some new shorts which made me feel a bit better, retail therapy, always helps. Then we tried to find a bag as I noticed last week that I keep getting biro on my legs somehow and found I actually had a big hole in my bag where my pen was poking out but couldn't find one. We went to the cinema to see How to loose friends and alienate people which was pretty funny. Cairns is a nice city had we known what we know now I think we would have got Chloe to come here as its not so busy, like for a Sunday the place was dead, no skyscrapers and a lot hotter and probably more chance of work here but I do think the fireworks at New Year will be amazing. At night Irene made a lovely lamb roast and we had a big family dinner and then we watched Australian Idol The Final lol, well done Wes hahaha and had a few glasses of wine, as you may be able to tell this is becoming quite a trend. We tried to find a nice bottle of wine but it turns out Davie and Irene like goon just like us lol!
The next day we went to help middle David put up his new TV, can I just mention he is an air traffic controller cos we have ever met one, cool job eh?!! Then Davie took us to see Lake Placid but there were no fish and Craig got bitten by some dodgy insect, then we went up Captain Cook Highway an had a look at some of the beaches, they were lovely, you could see all the shark nets and you cant go in just now because of the jellyfish, a backpacker was actually killed by one the other day which rarely ever happens. I am glad we have done our stint of sailing and diving etc. They are called Uricangys (cant spell it) and big ones are like the size of your thumb nail and see through so you wouldn't even see them and then they sting you and you get severe stomach cramps and feel like someone is hitting you in the back with a baseball bat and then your brain eventually explodes, not good, I dot think I'll be risking it, you wouldn't even see them - very scary!! We went to the shops and I got a bag, not as practical as I hoped but fits more stuff in and good for when I am working. I made dinner tonight and we all had fajitas and Irn Bru, wee David loved it, I think he is addicted lol! Davie went to his pipe band and we just watched TV and looked for flats online. We found that we could get the neighbours signal for their wireless so we could use the internet our laptop the whole time we were there - score!!! We had a few glasses of wine and a wee chat with Davie and went to bed.
Today we got up and went to the airport for our flight to Sydney. Wee David had an accident in the night so now I am paranoid I poisoned him with my fajitas! Davie and Irene dropped us at the airport and we eventually got to the front of the queue and there were still people to check in for the Brisbane flight so they were calling them all first, I nearly had a fit, if you turn up on time you have to wait while all the people who couldn't be bothered to get there on time skip you, I DON'T THINK SO!!!! Anyway we eventually got on the fight, Craig armed with his pills - junkie lol!! There was a wee guide do on our flight too, first time I have ever seen that, it was soooooo cute! We were with Virgin Blue and you don't get food or that but it was pretty good all the same, really pretty on take off over the coast etc. It was cloudy in Sydney so the landing was a bit bumpy but not too bad. It is freezing here compared to Cairns 18 degrees and I was cold in my t-shirt lol, shame for you all at home in 3 degrees lol! We are dreading our flight to Africa with Qantas as they have had problems practically every week since we got here but I think its more of a media thing now, I'm sure we will be ok lol! We got a taxi into Sydney and dumped our bags and headed to the net to look at jobs, flats etc. We picked up our mail, we now have real Aussie bank cards lol, had some tea and I got some black trousers for job hunting for £4 and went back to the net. I had to retype all our CV's as the program on my laptop is not compatible so I can never open it anywhere else which makes it hard to send it and print it etc, so at least we have that sorted. W had a walk to look at a flat we are going to see on Thursday but its not available for a few days and we need one now. We have set up a few flat viewings for tomorrow, a couple of which sound promising, one has ensuite and the other doesn't want a deposit and we have lots of phone numbers and CV's so we are ready to hit the ground running tomorrow. Here's hoping by the next blog we will have jobs and a home yay!!! Don't be expecting too much excitement till Chloe comes on the blog front as I reckon working and watching TV will just about cover the next 3 weeks hopefully lol!!
Hope all is well at home! Happy Birthday Heather!!
Lots of Love
Eva and Craig xxx
