Although I love venice. I am happy to leave the hot humid crowded city. Noire summers in venice for me - unless there's a cold snap! We had a lovely breakfast at hotel Olimpia , packed up and headed for the parking structure. Joe had difficulty with the ticket machine so Tom went in search of the parking atructures office. Half hour later Tom returns sighing theatrically. Once we left the Venetian islands and hit terra firma we stopped at a gas station. No pumps worked, the bathrooms were clean and they had lots of stuff to sell. So serene and I used the facilities and left On the road! We were passing by Bologna around lunchtime so Joey and I thought itight be interesting to try the restaurant that Carlo Ellis suggested 2 years ago.. and we didn't know the name; just about whee it was. So we retraced the walk we took from the train station - of course we drove in the bus lane because it was how we walked (will we be getting a ticket in the mail?) we walked up and back and - we found it - just by sight! Wanting to send a txt to Carlo, I checked the previous txt to him , and lo! The name of the restaurant appeared, confirming it was the same one. Joey had spaghetti. Bolognese I had polenta with mushrooms , Tom and Serene had an eggplant dish and an amazing gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce that was amazing! So we had to try the desserts; a Charlotte with chocolate sauce and a luscious truffle (Tartuffe). We waddled back to the car and continued our drive to Florence thru beautiful countryside . We arrived at hotel club Firenze - beautiful hotel! We had a residence suite- our room was smaller But we had a real bed. Tom and serene had a sofa bed but had a bkfst table. T&s ran off for a tour including the David; we took the hoho bus around Firenze and Fiesole. Great views! Our concierge suggested a lively restaurant - restaurant Bel Cor. A Michelin guide choice - and wow!! Complimentary champagne, appetizer and cookies for dessert. But the food itself - wow. I chose rabbit tagliatelle with pear; I lived it so much I ordered a second piatti of M beef with prune and almonds. Melt in your mouth!! Back to the hotel for the CNN news and to bed. And breakfast was really good! But that is for the 17th.
