Decided a bit of retail-therapy was in order so off to Val d'Europe and ????Vallee out by Disneyland. It's a huge shopping complex and "discount" outlet arrangement. After a nice lunch we started to look for bargains. Unfortunately none were to be had...all very expensive and designed for the 'high-end' bargain shopper! To top it all off it was very hot and then Ian got a little unwell. So back to the hotel via the local mall (which was 85% empty) and a siesta.
As it was our last night we decided to take in the sights of Paris by night. Got a park close to the Louvre and decided to walk up to the Arc de Triumphe! What a slog that was on a hot an sticky night. Through the Louvre, Tuilliers Jardins. Cleopatra's Needle and onwards......unfortunately most of the Champs Elysee was cordonned off for the finish of the Tour de France the following day, but we managed to fight our way through the chic crowds to le Arc.........just in time for everyone to be coming down from the top, as by now it was 1030 and it was closing.
One last sight to see - the Eiffel Tower all lit up. So another long walk to the ????? which faces the tower and is the congregating place for all the tourists. It was quite a sight, all blue with the EU stars on it. Then we waited for the lights to 'sparkle'....and waited, and waited.....until midnight - it seems the lights activate only every hour now.
Then a long walk back to the car, along the Seine. By now it was 1:30am and we were exhausted...then another half-hour drive back to the hotel.
