....and so the story so far.....Lençois is indeed very different from the busy, bustling streets of Rio and Salvador. People in this quaint village lead very simple lives (but still hassling us for business heheheheeh!!!)
This area of Brazil is known for its diamond mining, however this boom lead to a crash. This caused numerous problems including, employment and simple concerns such as food and water. Alot of the area has been mined offensively damaging the soil and generally the natural landscape.
People have used their initiative and moved to tourism, offering many a trek for days on end....we didn´t feel quite safe enough to buy into one of these as people had reported being left in the middle of their treks. Instead we decided to indulge in our own treks around the beautiful surrounding areas, with several hikes to nearby waterfalls, allowing us to top up our sun tans (Dal really needed it!!!) Sunkissed and relaxed we made our way to our pousada where we opened our own vegetarian restaurant for the night!!!!
Its hard to get our hands on vegetarian food as these Brazilians are very carniverous. Still struggling with identifying foods on menus and street stalls, all smell soooooo good, few shots at eating random foods and cocktails but still yet to find a real diamond.
Breakfast was indeed fit for a King (Maz) and Queen (Dal) eheheheh!!! Dal was acting like she was going into hibernation by nicking lots of cakes from the breakfast buffet, storing it away for her 2 hourly snack! Delicious but fattening.
On the final morning we were accompanied by 2 monkeys (unfortunately we didn´t have our camera!) but watched them as they demolished 4 banana´s and fought with the birds! Quite a match....we had ring side seats!
Spent five days there in total, could have spent so much longer. Days are running away, we can never remember what day of the week it is, always a great feeling. No sunday feelings beating at the door as tomorrow it will be monday and another week of work.
Some days can be real hard with the heat....dehydration and irritation can set in.....but we are pacing ourselves, taking it easy and having lots of fun ........wouldn´t change it for the world.
With xmas approaching we´re not sure where we will be but we´ll be thinking about you all with your turkey, roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, gravy and all the trimmings.....we´re salivating at the thought.....oh well, rice and salad for Dal and a bit of fish for Maz heheheeh!!! Any food packages please send to........
Maz & Dals xmas food appeal 2006, Adventures around the world.

Missing you all, wish you were here...gosh, do you remember that program??? :)
Lots of Love,
Dal and Maz xxx
