Cochabamba was the first city in Bolivia that we managed to couchsurf. Matthias offered to host us in his plush apartment with separate bedroom and ensuite. Affording spectacular views of the Andean mountains, it was hard to believe we were in Bolivia! Our first taste of luxury since leaving Miraflores. Matthias was a true gentleman, anticipating all our needs. Offering his home, his food, drink and time. We spent a few evenings celebrating sunset with a sundowner at his favourite bar, the Suiza, where Maz discovered the San Mateous, a cocktail consisting of numerous high percentage alcohols topped with a cherry J Matthias cooked several scrumptious meals, which tantalized our tastebuds. A fantastic cook, giving Maz the secret recipe for German meat balls!YUM! Cochabamba has an energy that is lively, non threatening, with a sense of freedom. Inhabitants are affluent with a bohemian culture. Numerous coffee houses, restaurants, that had a European feel. Altogether we ended up spending a massive nine days in the comfort of cochabamba. This time feeling a need to look after ourselves on a personal level. As travelers, we no longer own an iron, caps are our best friends and personal pampering was a rare thing. We indulged in a haircut and colour, leaving us feeling like new women. Matthias has left us with the sense of traveling with an increased awareness of our physical needs as well as our emotional. A day out in Matthias´s new 4x4 took us to the Garden of Eden. A quaint popular riverside restaurant, paddle boats and hotel. We observed the tremendous views of the city on the bumpy mountainous roads back to his apartment. Maz took part in racket ball with Matthias´s personal trainer. Enjoying herself thoroughly, promising to take it up once settled! We also took an uphill fast paced walk through the suburbs which Matthias rigidly follows every week as part of his regime. Nights of long, deep conversations. Days full of shopping, sightseeing and coffee shops! Matthias is a deeply knowledgeable man with much information to share and educate. We left Cochabamba with an air of sweetness as Matthias had introduced us to personal awareness and the delicious chocolates of Sucre, where we were next bound for.
