wooooooooooo Ive made it to Thailand...the plane didnt crash, i wasnt arrested at immigration, didnt lose my bag and didnt die from the heat and humidity!! I had an interesting afternoon at the airport in Sydney when they wouldnt let me check in because there was no guarantee that i would leave the country after 30days beause i didnt have a plane ticket saying it...soooo run run run run run to the quantas desk to book a flight quick sharp. i forget to mention that the shuttle from my hostel failed to pick me up so eventually got a taxi to take me to the airport (on the hostels expenses of course!).Of course theres always traffic and was definetly cutting it fine!
still...the airport...apparently i look like a very trustworthy and honest person :-/ and the woman was lovely and just printed me what would look like a flight out of thailand but in essence was an absolute fake! its amazing what these travel people can do. then...run run run run run, back to check in. "will this work?", hmmmmm hmmmmm. i think so. not so promising but i was allowed to board the flight. a lovely 9hour flight later a couple of films and a great session of mr bean and it crowd and we fnally landed. we had a good flight despite takeoff (i thought the engine was gonna fall off the plane it did not sound good) and got chatting to a german girl who is pretty much in the same boat as me. always helps when im going to the land of i dont know where!
Bangkok airport
is sooooo cool. yes the airconditioning was defintly working and it was very modern...no queue trough customs at all and my bag must have been thw 10th out. oohooooo. timje for a taxi to my guesthouse at midnight...the doors open to outside...and...wooooahhhhhh its HOT and SUPER HUMID! im not complaining at all, ive been waiting for some heat other than from a shower for a while. got a lovely taxi all the way yo the guesthouse and then checked in straight away. its a cute little place on a little back street. everyone is really friendly and before i knew it it was like id never left australia. everyone was from somewhere different. ive met my first people from venezuala and lithuania!!
so. Bangkok...
...smells..kinda funky, sometimes nice sometimes not. theres soo many different aromas its crazy.
...has very fast escalators! i have to really think about it when i get on it so i dont liss a step.
...has great transport. so far in the last 24hrs ive taken a taxi, used my little legs in the heat, a skytrain (similar to the monorail), a metro and a tuktuk. those last 3 probably cost me less than 2 pounds and was on them for well over an hour!
...dirt cheap, i cant resist the prices and have shopped alot already.
...and fianlly so friendly. all my worries are pretty much gone.l everywhere is so safe and i LOVE to barter! that doesnt mean ive not taken precautions, im hanging ono my bag for dear life!
anyway, the next part starts tomorrow, i leave bangkok on the night train up to Chang mai where ill be there for a while chilling out with some elephants trekking around and checking out the culture up there. i cant wait!
ill try and find some form of telephone communication soon. much love to you all
