Another entry, so soon after the last! these blog posts are becoming more frequent...partly have more time on my hands and also am actually on the move more and seeing great things all over again!
ive just got back from the bay of islands. i had a wicked time up there, shame the weather wasnt better for us. i flew up to auckland on wednesday morning, after spending the evening before with an Irish friend that i met when i first arrived in new zealand on the kiwi experience. it was great to catch up and share our stories of the times weve had and reminise on old times...he now wants to live in nz too!
it was a really good flight up to auckland, the weather was perfect and had some awesome views of the north and south island from the skies. had a humorous flight crew who were constantly making jokes...the final one being over the intercom "we will shortly be arriving into wellington" (everyone looks at each other thinking...were meant to be going to auckland) "only joking...into auckalnd hahaha" nice to not have the seriousness of most other flights. i arrived into auckland and got a bus to the centre. checked into a hostel and bumped into matt rant all over again! we spent the day together before he had to catch his flight that night to sydney. was a chilled out evening after eating way too much pizza from a $10 all you can eat dominoes pizza and free glass of beer/wine! a bargain that couldnt be missed.
the next morning i was up early to catch a bus up to the bay of islands to visit claire. it was a long 4 hour journey up there but great to be seeing new places all over again, almost looked similar to england until you got onto the coast line. the weather was poor but the water was still turqupoise blue and there was still some white sand left.
i arrived at about 2.30 and was collected by claire. she took me to see some of the touristy sights like the waitangi treaty grounds and hararu falls (apparently the 2nd largest horse shoe falls in the world after niagra...im not sure if i9 believe her!) we had a chilled evening...sat and watched a movie and got cooked dinner. was nice to stay in a family home again. i met her parents and also got to have my own room and bathroom...was luxury!
we had a busy day on friday with claire driving all the way up to cape reinga (most northern point of nz) and then we went walking on the sand dunes. the weather was some of the worst...super windy and rainy but was still defo worth it! even all the birds were getting blown away when they were trying to fly...again provided some amusement. we had a long drive back especially when we missed the turning to paihia and ended up going the long way through jungly/forest land. we arrived back at 7ish and quickly got ready to go to a local casino event, run by the roatry club. claires parents are well into the local community so it was lovely to see some of the local side rather than backpackers. played some fun gambling with "funny money" as it was called on the notes. they had horse racing which involved people winding up these horses with string...the first over the line won, i was one of those people that had to wind up the horses, i didnt win tho :-(. we headed into town afterwards and had a couple drinks before heading home.
on saturday we did very little, we cooked a fry up for us all in the mornig then i tried to sort out my plans for the rest of my time. i booked into a hostel for that evening as i couldnt get a bus back to auckland that day. moved into a very cute hostel called the mousetrap...it had lots opf little cubby holes and was very homely. i could have stayed there for more than one night. was feeling very ill today so was in bed early and trying to get some rest before my new adventures on the kiwi experience on monday.
i got a bus back to auckland today (sunday) which was kinda eventful...it involved a large diversion due to an accident and lots of flourcest pink sheep! i was highly amused, aswell as speaking to world and tom from home and a good friend from qtown. brightened my mood! im back in auckland now till tomorrow, staying in base again. met a girl in my room that is alos hopping on the kiwi ex tomorrow and a couple others are joining in a couple days...sounds like the buses will be busy again.
think thats about all for now...expect another update soon xxxx
