LAst night we went out in San Jose. We were meant to meet the others at 8.30 pm at some bar. 8.30 pm came round and we were still watching The Last King of Scotland, still not ready, still not ready to get ready! An hour later we were out the door, flip flops and rain coat walking through the rain in search of a taxi! We stood for about 20 minutes by the park. Harry took control of the side street while i covered the main road. Taxi after taxi came along the side street but none of them stopped....i wonder why!!We were absolutely drenched by the time I yes I hailed the taxi and as we clambered in i tell Harry to tell the taxi driver where we are going. 'Yum well' he says 'to the serious bar'....i repeat....'the sirrius bar'....'yer the seeerious bar'....'no the sirrius bar'....'Harry stop being confusing!' The driver looks at us as with a confused expression. He drives on. A few minutes later i say....Entiende....he replies 'no'! Good so we are just driving, driving to nowhere in particular...we are also late....i start trying to remember the name of t he area and say 'somewhere in something like velovidad' The drivers confused expression turns to worry. He pulls up on the side of the road and hands us his mobile phone. The next 5 minutes were spent with the taxi driver having a very confusing conversation with Antonia who attempted to give helpful directions but really all she said was 'it is near super cindy!' Eventually we got there and Harry says 'i knew it was this way all along!'
I failed to mention that earlier i had asked Harry if he knew where the bar was and if he could tell the taxi driver where to go....I didn't believe his firm 'yes' so i asked again and again....'yes' yes'. I went no further! MEN!!
We arrived at the bar and went to Rory's house for some drinks...got a little sleepy so we went out and hailed two taxis right after eachother. We drove to 'Castro Bar' which had been recommended to us by Roberto the night before. It was very empty and the their was a overbalance of Salsa music being played. We left and hailed two more taxis. Our taxi driver was an old bearded man who obviously wasn't going to know where 'Atomic Bar' was but when we asked he nodded and ushered us into the car. A few minutes later i say to him 'entiende' and he says 'no.' so we stop the car and wave to the others behind us. Their taxi driver didn't know where he was going either so we decide to just go to the bars in San Pedro. They start driving and just as we are on the move the driver stops the car. Gets out and comes back with his hubb cap. Good!
We get to the bar, i buy some Hershey's cookies and walk into the bar....it is also fairly empty but the music is good and it is raining so we order some cocktails. I walk up to the bar man and lean forward and say 'Donde esta la fiesta' an interesting conversation follows. In the meantime the bar man places a cocktail on the bar and i take a sip. I asked Antonia and Harry whose it was and Harry points to the guy behind him and says his....oops...i shout 'i'm sorry, was that yours' and he looks at me as though i am a luney...HARRY!! Harry picks the cocktail up and walks away. We order some chips and sip our cocktails then decide just as the bar people start to mop the floor and stack the chairs at 1am that we should probably head home!
........an interesting evening particularly when all we wanted to do was dance! We spent more time in taxis than in bars!!!
