MY COSTA RICA EXPERIENCE
so far...
My Host Family
They are all very friendly which is great as it makes conversation an bit more interesting than 'hello and how are you!' The father is called Gerado and doesn't speak any English, looks like a guy off prison break and watches a lot of tv and is a mechaninc. The other Elizabeth is really ill so i haven't actually met her yet...quite mysterious! There are 3 daughters all in their 20's and one has a 1 year old son called Josue who is adoradble and has a teddy caled Anito! Every evening his father put on the theme tune to one of Josues favourite cartoons and they dance together! The three daughters are Fabiola, Lisa and Lorna. Lorna speak some English and looks after us the most, i know her the best. They have a small yappy dog who is intent on not letting me sleep past 6.30am in the mornings called Dotti.
The Food
We get fed breakfast and lunch by the host family, breakfast is either bread and jam or bread and plastic cheese, black tea and a banana...i admit it is getting slightly boring but oh well! Dinner consists of 'the typical costa rican platter' basically rice, rice, rice and beans, beans and some form of meat...i can't eat anymore rice!!
I paid a visit to the supermarket and stocked up on some delicacies that i miss...crisps, chocolate, apples and some other goodies!
Lunch is so cheap...1 pound 30p for a burrito, taco, tortilla, hamburger etc....which are really yummy!
Transport
The Sabanilla bus to the school costs 16 p..165 colones......and a taxi costs 1.50.....1500 colones........so cheap! I still stick to public tranport as it is still cheaper!
This weekend we had activities and outings arranged for us. On Saturday we visited Poas Volcano and walked to the secondary and primary cones. The walk up to the primary crater was fine but when we arrived all we could see was cloud and eggy smoke...ok...we waited a few minutes while we took several group photos in front of the mist then turned round to see that the smoke was gradually clearing and a rocky crater was appearing. We saw corners of the bright blue pool, took hundreds of photos and walked away satisfied! The walk UP the secondary cone was very very steep and we were all so out of breath when we got to the top. Once again it was misty but luckily once again it cleared and a grey lake was uncovered! More group photos were taken before we walked down to the gift shop! The walk down was really nice as the path was covered by rainforest and we saw some humming birds...to be continued! x x x x love to everyone, i miss you so much!
