We arrive in Pakbeng and walk up to our guesthouse. A piping hot shower later and I was one happy camper!
We headed out for a walk around the town and saw the market which was closing as the sub went down. The town seems pretty small, has one main street and I think other dirt roads which lead to the villages where people live. Pakbeng has a population around 2000 and is a thoroughfare for tourists along the mekong or truck drivers from china heading to thailand. So there are a number of guesthouses.
We had dinner at the Pakbeng restaurant. We wanted to try sine traditional food, after Savat's recommendations, I got the pork lap and sticky rice and Paap got the chicken curry and we shared some spring rolls. The pork was minced together with chilli, herbs and lemon, delish! All the food was great and we also tried food from our fellow travellers, so good!!
After dinner we hit the only bar in town which had western songs pumping (a little too loud for my granny ears), we got a free shot of whiskey, had a beer then a big of a dance with some of the other tourists in the bar. Longs friend jack was there who is another tour leader and Cambodian. He was funny and did belly rolls and had double jointed arms so did ths move where he waved them above his head, classic! after many attempts we couldn't get Long dancing, I think we may need to work on that a bit more another time!
Feeling a bit tipsy Paap and I walked home ready to hit the hay! After being propositioned and offered marriage we finally made it back to our room.bothy he way, we both politely declined....!
One last thing, our beds were brand new, however, you know the plastic that is on a new mattress? Well it was still on our beds, including the cardboard on the corners, instructions etc, now wonder the sheet kept slipping off! Ha!!
