We have now arrived in Laos and met our local guide Savat. We are in the town of Huay Xai. When there we went via immigration and paid our visa fee, apparently $1 more for us as we arrived 2mins after 4pm (!), and headed off to our guesthouse.
Paap and I had a simple room with single beds, blue flooring, shower with no curtain or glass (so water goes on everything in bathroom) old mismatched towels not big enough to cover me and many posters from the 90's onward with Lao ladies in them, all tasteful! It was quaint but clean.
The town is small and simple, most people on motor bikes or utes which were quite new and they drive on the other side of the road. We headed to the local market and sampled local snacks like deep fried taro and an egg which had been emptied out, mixed with sauces, put back in the shell then cooked. How they managed thst is a mystery! But it was nice. The market was mainly for fresh food and it all looked good.
Then dinner was a BBQ style at a local restaurant, it was all you can eat so right up my alley. Was kind of like the Korean BBQ you get at home with a hot water around the outside to cook veges. Yum! Tony must have eaten enough meat to feed a small country! We enjoyed a few beers there amongst the fairy lights then we were all exhausted so back to the guesthouse and off to bed....!
