Hey guys, sorry it's been a while since we updated you but we have been having so much fun to care ha. We are currently in Chiang Mai which is in the north of Thailand so will do you 2 blogs, 1 for Bangkok and 1 for Chiang Mai so here goes.....
BANGKOK
Got there and checked in to our hostel which was an absolute dump, we were prepared to stay there until we seen the dorms which would have been ok if you were Neil from the young ones, so we said we would stay for the 2 nights then go as there were meant to be 4 people in the dorm i booked but was actually 4 bunkbeds (so 8 beds) smell was mingin. We dumped our stuff (excuse the pun) then went for a walk, we were so tired after travelling so many hours (24) and nearly missed our connecting flight in Singapore to Bangkok and were like Home Alone running through the airport after being searched by the Singaporeans and they took loads of stuff off us as we were that late we had to take our backpacks on the plane with us instead of checking them in. So strolling around Bangkok, grumpy and hungry knowing we had to go back and sleep in the s***hole. We bought 2 tickets to catch the skytrain and as we were about to walk up my ticket blew out of my hand (fate or what!!??) so we ended up just walking along instead when we bumped into Matt and his girl Amy who Jonjo used to work with in Jersey. So we went to Khao San Rd with them and were telling them about our dorm and stuff, so they recommended a place to us as they were at the end of their 9 month travel stint. We got a taxi back to the dump and checked out, the Aussie guy didn't mind and didn't charge us which was good. We checked in to Rambaturri Village Inn which was clean, had our own room and sky TV. We had a few hours sleep and had arranged to meet Matt and Amy later on that night where we had a few too many Samsungs with relief of getting out of the dump. Matt got a bit tipsy so him and Amy got off and we stayed out and met Paul and Andy from Edge Hill and Dermot and "Wayne Rooney". Had a buzz and rolled home at 6.30 am.
Stayed in Bangkok a few days, seen the temples and the Grand Palace then booked our trip to Chaing Mai.........
CHAING MAI
We got the train from Bankok to Chaing Mai which was 12 hrs, was okay though, 1st class which is dirt cheap, food included and air con carriages. Got picked up on the other end and taken to our backpackers place BMP Resident. The thai guy tried to give us another dump was, dirt on the walls, cobwebs and smelt of piss, looked like the room Robert Carlisle was in in the Beach ha. Jonjo went and kicked off and we paid to be "upgraded" to a better room 10 quid for 5 days (cheap). Stayed at BMP for 2 days then went on our trek which was an experience to say the least.
DAY 1 OF TREK
We walked for 4 hours up the mountains into the jungle, it was really hot so we were done in but made it. We were in groups of ten with these Dutch people, 2 families and 2 young lads, who were really nice and spoke English which was good. We trekked to Robert's village (our jungle king guide) and stayed in their home the Karen tribe village. They had no electricity, the toilet was a hole and we slept in wooden huts on the floor with a flashlight incase you needed the toilet in the middle of the night which i did, nightmare had to wake Jonjo up at 3am after holding it in for 2 hours ha. (you would have to if you'd seen it). The had nothing like we do but were very happy and their hospitality was amazing and the food was great, best thai curry we have ever had and they don't even have an oven. Had a few Chang beers with the Dutch then went to bed as lots more walking tomorrow.
DAY 2 OF TREK
It had been raining all night so the trek was a nightmare to day, lots of mud, hills and sore bums from slipping all the time (Jonjo went 1 more than me) funny but dangerous at the same time. We trekked for another 4 hours only stopping for water breaks and rest. We seen a massive spider and the other group seen a snake, our assistant guide was collecting giant beetles for food for his village tribe, he said they taste like chicken as does everything else. The mud was worth it as we got to the massive Waterfall where we based for the night in wooden huts (2 in each), lit a fire ate and sat round drinking until the early hrs. Was a brilliant night especially sleeping right next to the waterfalls, we made sure our hut was next to the toilet this time ha. Met some lads (John and Andy) for Gloucestershire and Essex, they were in the other group and we were flashing them with our flashlight to come over the bridge, they did and stayed drinking with us. Went to bed as more walking tomorrow AGAIN.
DAY 3 LAST DAY WAS GLAD AS STILL NOT HAD A SHOWER EEWW
Day 3 was the most easiest as only 1 1/2 hr walking, we trekked until we got to the lake to got Bamboo Rafting. We had a old fella on our raft so he was pretty chilled compared to the other ones who got soaked and fell in ha. Really good fun and we even took turns to steer the rafts with the fella. After the rafting we had lunch then went to the elephant park where we climbed aboard and rode them up steep hills, muddy pits etc. We fed them bananas and sugar cane, their breath stunk like a skunks arse. A mosquito bit our elephant's ear and was bleeding so good job it didn't go off it's head at we were on it (pure high) but the views were unbelivable. After that we headed back to hotel where we got straight in the shower felt a million dollars.
We have pretty much chilled since we got back from trekking as we have been tired but we did go on a river boat cruise last night down the Ping River which belongs to the Riverside Restaurant so you get served food and drinks on the boat whilst you cruise. After that we said we will have one on the way home but ended up (as always) staying out in Happy Bar where Wi the Thai owner of the bar was hilarious. We played pool all night with the Thai girls and Jonjo missed the step playing pool and went arse over tip (all the thais were squealing with laughter ha) After that we jumped on the back of Wii's moped and they took us to a proper Thai nightclub where we partied until the early hours. Jonjo has been in bed all day and I have been on another 3 hr walk by meself (legs need a break now though) Gonna pack our backpack and have an earlyish night as we are heading to Pai tomorrow which is a little sleepy village about 2 hrs from here with hot springs and a river running through it. It is really arty and has the best live music in Thailand apparantly.
So thanks for checking us out and we will update you when we get to Pai.
