after leaving adelaide we set off with phillip island in our sights. however, i didnt want to leave adelaide as we settled there and had some great times with Alice, but seen as though there were no jobs, we had to move on and do something before we killed each other. so one day we booked loads of things to do and got a flight back to melbourne to go to phillip island. this island is famous for the penguins, so obviously i was looking forward to this the most. alices mum dropped us off at the airport, and before you knew it we was on the plane. as soon as it took off i started to get very nervous as there was some bad turbulance, and it didnt help when the pilot announced they'd be more bad turbulance...brilliant!, i thought. luckily it was only an hour flight. we arrived in melbourne again for the 3rd time in 2months, so i wasn't too excited. we got our suttle bus to our hostel and pretty much just went straight to bed. however, this hostel was very lively (not that im complaining) but you could here the music, and to top it off we was all sleeping on the top bunks of the nosiest beds in the world. even if you moved to stratch your leg the bed made so much noise. eventually we managed to dose off.
the next day we all woke up very tired after not sleeping much, but we had a 12hour tour of phillip island to look forward. so we got ready and headed for some breakfast (bacon sandwich) and then waited outside our hostel for the bus. it came and at first the tour man seemed pretty nice and friendly, updating us with whats happening in the world, which was nothing much apart from a woman giving birth to a baby on a plane then leaving it. anyway, we was the first pick up so we had a lot of places to pick people up. we got to one stop where a japanease lass got on then jumped off at the next stop, then re-appeared afew stops later, but that kepts us entertained for an hour. after picking everyone up, we set off on the way to phillip island with our tour guide getting more and more annoying. we stopped off to do abit of wine tasting, which if you like wine, its great but none of us did. however i managed to force some down then tried some white and red port, both were rank, but you cant turn down free alcohol when your on a budget, even if it was only the smallest bit in a glass. after that we headed to a rehabilitation centre and got to feed the kangaroos and wallabies which was good, but i really liked the donkey they had. also me and laura was at the end of a nasty goat, it tried to take my hand off and actually managed to brake lauras nail much to her disgust. they also had dingos which i'd not seen before and they looked pretty cute, but it just kept pacing up and down the enclosure so i started to feel sorry for it. after this we gradually got closer to the penguins. we stopped off briefly for tea (fish and chips) then headed for a scenic view on top of a hill, i cant remember where he said we was, as by this time i'd switched off from listening to the tour guide, i think it was cats bay or something. it was a very nice view, also i got to see two little penguins that were hiding under the wooden path so i got abit over excited.
after this we eventually made it to the penguin parade. we found it funny that it had signs everywhere to check for penguins under your car before you move it. we def had the best spot in the house. after waiting for about half an hour, the penguins suddenly came out of the sea in big groups and ran as fast as possible to safer land. it was amazing, i'd never seen so many penguins in sure a big group before, and as they were coming to shore as fast as they could, i felt sorry for the fat ones that got left behind because they couldnt run as fast. the more we watched the more penguins came out the water, and they walked right past us all. after we had spent an hour watching them, we walked back up to the bus. as we moved on to the car park we saw afew penguins running around under cars, i couldnt believe it. they were so cute, i really did just want to take one home. after getting back on the bus we had a 2 and a half hour journey back to our hostel, and we all went straight to bed.
the next day we got up and checked out of the hostel as that night we was getting an over night bus to sydney, i wasnt looking forward to the 12 hour bus jounery there. so that day we had one last look around melbourne. we went to the harbour and watched lots of jelly fish in the water, and tried to go on the big wheel (equivelent to the london eye) but it was temporary out of use. then before you knew it, it was time to go to the bus station.
