when we arrived in queenstown it was tea time, and all our group was off to a skyliine resturant to eat as much as we could. after we'd dolled our sens up we headed to the gondala which was the steepest one i've ever seen in my life, so obviously i got nervous about swinging nearly 1000 ft in the air. we got in the gondala, and dont get me wrong the view was absolutely brilliant, im sure mrs macritchie would have loved to see this scenerey.
we saw the whole of queenstown with all the mountains and the massive lakes it was truely amazing, but the height was very scary it did make me feel sick and at sometimes i couldnt bear to look out of the window, and it didnt help that a canadian lass was telling us about one falling off the cable in canada. but we got to the top and into the restuarant Laura thought this was great although it was steep it showed the natural beauty of queenstown off greatly).
the resturant was at the top of this mountain that we had just climbed up and the view from our table was unbelievable, you wouldnt get that view back in sheffield or essex. the food was brilliant it had every type of food you could think off, i went from sunday dinnner to start then moved on the rice and noodles, laura emma had seafood i think and kim loved the veg. there was also an old man that was playing live music all through the night and he was mint on the guitar playing some jonny cash and lots of ozzie songs as it was australia day.
after dinner we headed to afew bars. we went in the first place, and they were playing alot of ozzie music, which im not really in to so we started on the jagerbombs to get us in the party mood. after we headed to a club that had tea pots which was filled with alcohol and we drank some of them and by the time we new it we was drunk. but us poms was the only ones that could handle our drinks as all the ozzies went home early. Amy and laura did feel a little worse for where but dragged them selves out of bed along with emma and bridgette who we were sharing a room with and headed for breakfast. we sat and waited for emma amd kim to return!!.
the next morning emma and kim went to do a sky dive. But after theyd both filled in the forms, gone through the safety briefing and got really nervous it ended up being cancelled due to it being too windy and re-arranged for the next day. amy spent the morning being hungover, laura wasnt and emma caught up with some much needed sleep. then we went for a walk around to see what queenstown had to offer. it wasnt as big as i was expecting it to be, its probably smaller then beverley. we all had showers then headed off to an ice bar for the evening. this ice bar was also smaller then i thought it was goin to be but was something that you hardly ever get to go into.
the ice sculptures were amazing, we had cups made out of ice to drink out of aswell. i think it was something like -7 in there and when you get use to the heat in nz it can get a little bit cold from you. we only had 20 minutes in this bar which wasnt enough time but was good to see all the ice sculptures and carvings, it must take them ages to do it. after the ice bar we went to a bar called frasers and the bar staff did like a little show where they filled shots glasses of tequlia and set it on fire, it was pretty impressive the fire display they made, the fire was alittle too close to my head tho i thought i come out with no hair at one point. at this everyone was dancing on tables and drinking loads. me and kim went home early as i didnt want to be hungover for the shotover boat and rafting. laura and emma stayed out and got wasted with a few other ozzies. Alistair (our tour moanager) was obviously also wasted as he sent us on a little pub crawl of Queenstown but took us to the bars that were all dead. We ended up rolling in at 4.30am and after emma called james she had only 2 hours in bed before her big day.
The next morning we went white water rafting and on a 30 minute ride on the shotover boat. The shotover boat definately help clear the hangover that was starting but the white water rafting was a bit tame. The slow drifting down stream didn't help emma feeling like she was going to be sick over board but when we hit the rapids it give her something to think about. The most scary bit was getting to the shotover river by minibus and trailer when the warning signs said 'no trailers' and there was sheer drops off the side of the little dirt track. We all had fun though and got the photos just to show how rough emma and laura really did look. In the afternoon emma and kim had there sky dive. The wind had dropped so it was going ahead. Me and kim were the last to jump but we ended up going in seperate plans. My tandam guy wasn't very nice and it was a good job i wasnt scared about doing it coz he didnt talk to me at all. When we started walking over to the plane he ran off in the other direction and i was stood in the middle of the landing field with aload of parachutes above me. As we went up in the plane the cloud dropped so we only managed to get up to around 10,000ft. As the door open i was first out, i slid out the door and as instructed put my legs under the plane and my hand back. Looked at the camera guy and then just fell! It was amazing. I could hardly breathe and was somersalting to the ground but loved it!! I had wanted the dvd but it didnt work. As the guy pulled the parashute i thought i was going to lose my trainers as id forgotten to tie them up properly and thought i was going to drop out of my harness when he pulled something to lower me. Even though it was cloudy the views were so good of Queenstown, the lakes and the remarkables mountain range. It would be something I would do again!! I thought kim would be really nervous when she landed but she said aswel that she loved it but probably wouldn't do it again now it was over. during this time laura went to sleep and tried to catch up. amy and kim headed off for a few quite drinks to meet there friends. now we all no what amys quiet drinks end up like so she stroled in with a very drunk emma about 3.30am and fell on to me alot which was fairly funny. the next day we had to get up early. laura took much pleasure in waking Amy up and took a few pictures.
