Ok first things first....some things that I failed to remember in my last entries and which I have been beaten for not mentioning....
When we were doing the seal swim in Kaikoura we swam through hundreds of Jellyfish (the man assured us they were harmless but we still kept trying to flap them away!) and Emma dearest conquered the deep and found herself a wee octopus. RANK! But both Em and I were very brave and held it - the bloke wouldnt let me not but I held it for a long long while!! It was rank!! It kept sucking our hands and its suckers on its tentacles kept ...well sucking on us! It was like a big bag of goo and you could see my fingers through it - bleh! I held it for a good long while until it squirted at me and scared the bejeebus out of me and i threw it away! Im sure it would have gone for miles but it had sucked onto our floaty ring and so kinda pinged back onto it!!
Right! Onto Wellington!! The ferry is mahoosive!! Seriously giant!! Its an old "Pride of Cherbourg" and was all gold plated and massive halls and lifts and glass panelling inside with a cinema and play ground and reclining chairs.....Ok so we didnt take advantage of any of these, we went straight up to the top deck and sat in the sun the whole time! But its still impressive!
The crossing was really smooth and beautiful but the last 30 minutes got stupidly windy that people couldnt walk properly to the exit! We decided to stay seated but had to bear witness to stupid boys making the wind puff their clothes up and playing the "who can look stupider tryingt to stand in the wind" game - good times had by all Im sure!
Anywho...got to Wellington and the remains of the fishy family (just us and Katefish left!) checked into our hostel and crashed! We had a wee night out with some of Kates mates from Oz which was a good laff actually - especially when they are paying for expensive bottles of wine (tastes worse than the cheap stuff to me but who am I to complain!) Dont worry though Grandad, safe drinking and night out practises were observed all night - very safety conscious grandaughter you have here!
Wellington...to be honest seems like a bit of a dump - think it wasnt helped by the fact that we had just spent 3 weeks in the country but we didnt like it much. We did go to the cultural museum thing which was pretty cool and free - us cheap? never! Pretty interesting though, lots of jewellry and maori displays and historical bits...as well as a giant cow made out of corned beef tins! La!
Thats about it really - next stop is Happy Clappy where were are going rafting again - we are addicted its so much fun! So will fill you in about that soon!
Lots of love the 3 fivers xxx
