Rafting day rafting day!!
Right...first things first...our dorm room at the rafting lodge has triple decker bunk beds!! Well I say bunk beds but they are more like beds stapled to the wall (I was a little nervous being on the bottom bunk that I would get squished!)
Anywho, once over the excitment of the bunk beds we spent the evening *suspensful music*...playing cards!! Big shock huh! Although this time we did use our card playingness for good and made friends with the 2 Canadian lads from our bus and one of the guides and had a very amusing night!
The next day we actually had sunshine! The guides were even more surprised than us! We got all dolled up with wetsuits and fleeces and were boiling hot!
We got put into groups (without our Canadian lads despite Kate's protestations!) and acquired Jason and Lucia who were the nicest pair and our guide was Rana...and he was insane!!
Anywho, lots of floating about and instructions followed...while floating down a river surrounded by mountains! There were a couple of grade 2 rapids to get us used to the commands (GET DOWN being my fave!) and then it was on to the big stuff!!
It was so much fun! You would get slammed by a wave! It was best when we got into the grade 5 rapids cause until that point the only reason Em and Jo were getting splashed was because of my rubbish rowing!!
Sometimes though you are going through a massive rapid and are sure that the guide should be shouting get down but instead you are still dangling on the side of the raft trying to paddling even though you are lifted out of the water...and trying to hold on!
The last rapid had about 5 little rapids within it...IT...WAS...AWESOME!!!! Really scary and just fab! Rana told everyone that the guides had voted our raft the best ones but he also said that we were the best group he had had all day....at like 10am! So we dont believe the fool!
On the way home people were jumping off cliffs and Rana got to show off his Hoff style dive into the water...even thoguh noone needed his help! his moaning about being cold on the way home wasnt helped when...whilst under blue skies....it started to snow!!! Oh so very exciting!!!
After that BBQ then back to Christchurch and a night out with our new Canadian friends!!
More later love len xxx
