Ok, so we have just ditched Kate Fish as she has abandoned us to return England wards - with a slight detour and we headed up to the northern tip of the North Island of New Zealand (try saying that 5 times when your drunk!) to the Bay of Islands.
The bus ride up here was....hairy - VEEEEEEEEEEEEERY bendy roads made Jo and I feel veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery seasick and we were glad when the 5 hour trip was over! (Second to last bus ride though - whoohoo!!)
We eventually got here and the room is like a little holiday apartment thing and the hostel is like 3 minutes from the seafront and 5 minute walk from town....ok so its not a very impressive town but still, its only 5 minutes away!!
Paihia, the town in the Bay Of Islands that we are staying at is really beautiful actually, views over a super blue sea to other islands and is very quiet, which we like for our last couple of days....
....and then the Stroemstads get into town!!
Heehee, Janni and Atle tracked us down and after some poodling around town we got settled back down to.....drinking beer and playing cards!!! Oh it will never be the same again when we eventually ditch them for good!
Now for the best bit of our trip, for once in our sorry young lives we actually managed to time our trip so that we were present for, and not leaving before.....THE CHRISTMAS PARADE!!!! It was so cute, basically just a load of Utes driving down the main street with some tinsel and tissue paper wrapped around them and lots of babies dress like animals and elves!! Very cute!!
So this is basically how the rest of the trip went....
....BBQ, card playing, beer drinking, laughing, inhaling helium, laughing, beer drinking, card playing, bed.
Then came our last day, the day we finally bid farewell to the Stroemstads *sob sob*, after having a lovely breakfast (during which Jo "threw" a glass pepper pot off a first floor balcony - children everywhere fled in terror....well in my head they did anyway) we played some more cards sitting in the blumming hot summer sun!!!
Eventually the time came to say goodbye forever to our Scandinavian friends (with a few tears shed - although I quickly got over it when they got the bus driver to call my up to the front and give me back $5 that I'd lost in a bet to Atle - dont think Ive forgotten Stroemstad!)
After that it was back to Auckland to get everything sorted to fly to Hawaii the next day! (For those not in the know, we changed our flights to avoid Fiji cause we didnt want to...you know, die in the coup that is kicking off! Which means 4 weeks in Hawaii - crikey!)
Anywho, next stop Hawaii!! xxx
