Rafting again rafting again!!! Ok so we might be slightly addicted....!
We got dropped off at a random little town called....urm....Taihape - but which I am convinced is called Happy Clappy....but anyway! We got collected by the lodge people and taken to River Valley which is "nestled" (seems like a good word for it!) at the bottom of a flat top mountain right next to the river. It was such a cute little place, nothing around for miles and miles except hundreds of sheep which we finally saw being herded along the road holding up traffic - whey!!!
Anywho, the most interesting part of our trip came when we walked into the dorm room.....and found....2 mahoosive bunk beds, with 4 mattresses on each, all pushed up together! So basically, if the room was full then you would have been sleepingin the same bed as 16 other people! Very unnerving when you wake up in the middle of the night and cant tell if the randomer next to you is staring at you as you sleep or not! Id guess yes cause we are so hot when we are dribbling and snoring away to ourselves! but you never can tell!
Anyway....the day of the rafting and JoTo decided to be a good wee lass and save her pennies so it was just Me, Em and Kate who donned rubber cat suits (AKA wet suits before you worry!) for the 4th time in 10 days! Nice!
Anywho, off we bobbed in our raft, which was a lot smaller than the last one (more prone to tipping over apparently! Great!) which was quite interesting when we had to get into the GET DOWN position in the bottom of the boat to prevent flying out over a rapid! We al got stuck and couldnt get back on the side to paddle!
We all had to get out of the raft and float down a rapid in the ABSOLUTELY FREEZING COLD WATER! Was muchos fun, especially watching Em bob down the river cause she missed an inlet bit! SHe was fine though Nana Stanbridge - lots of people were there to pull us out. We then got back in and went down a rapid standing up! Very interesting at the best of time but especially when you have my outstanding sense of balance!! Kate told me to hang onto her and then proceeded to try to chuck herself over the side of the raft! Nugget!!
We did a couple of very cool rapids and tehn had a chocolate break! How much fun was this trip?!!! We also had the funniest guide who made us all sneak up on the other rafts and start a water fight with them! Although the lads raft were much better at using their paddles as weapons of watery destruction! Payback was cold!
The rapids were awesome, they had had a flood recently and so thewater was flowing fast and one of the rapids they had never gone down with the water being so hgh before. It was like a 90 degree drop and was SO MUCH FUN! The bloke took a video of it where we make it down the rapid, all start celebrating and then crash into a cliff wall cause we werent paying attention! Tis very amusing...Jeremy Beadle would love it!!
I tried to give one of the girls on our raft a black eye with me oar (failed though doh!), Emmy tried to headbutt Kate off the raft, and the only boy on our raft fell over board and smacked his backside!! Maryanne at the back of the raft tried to fly out of teh raft and we have 3 photos showing her progress before Jenny the guide grabbed her!! Very amusing!!
Anywho, spent the rest of the day lounging in the sweet sweet sunshine, Em, Jo and Kate had a spa to relaxtheir aches and pains (Jo's were sympathy ones - she's such a good friend!) and then back to Happy Clappy to meet the bus to take us to Lake Taupo.
The End
